Dear Subscribers,

Shelley's idea to repost the names and towns we are
researching was a good
one. Today's postings brought a response that may be
very helpful to me. In
this response, the town Lissa (modern Polish,
Leszno) that is not in Galicia
was listed. This provided me with a clue because in
the family tree I am
researching, there is also a connection between
Lissa and Galicia.

In the following long list of family names I am
particularly interested in
finding connections to two. They represent the brick
wall of my current
efforts: WEISENBERG >from Jaroslaw, with possible
connections to Przemysl,
Sambor and Radymno and KRONSTEIN, not a common name,
with connections to
Zurawno, Drohobycz and possibly Rzeszow and Lwow.

The complete list follows:

Schodnica, Sambor, Lwów.
FEUERSTEIN: Drohobycz, Zhuravno, New Jersey

Deadline for registering claims for assets in eastern Germany #germany

Simon Srebrny <srebrny@...>

Dear colleagues,

I would just like to call on you all to "brainstorm" a little as the
deadline approaches - TUESDAY, 31 MARCH 2004 - for registering claims
to assets in eastern Germany held in trust by the Claims Conference.

There is a list of such assets at www.claimscon.org and instructions on
what to do.

In recent weeks I have called relatives around the world to encourage
them to claim what is rightfully theirs. None of them had any idea of
the list, or the assets, or the deadline. So just imagine how many
people out there ( you?! ) are going to fail to get their (your?!) due
inheritance...

So just review your data to see if your kin - or you yourselves -
should submit a claim.

This is a public service message. I have no material interest,
obviously, in other people's assets.

from a genealogical point of view, the documentation that the Claims
Conference must already have gathered and that prospective heirs may
yet have to assemble could prove extremely valuable. Good luck.

Jews of Siret (Sereth): Victims of the Holocaust - now online #ukraine

M.Goldberger <marina778@...>

Dear UKR SIG members,

I am pleased to announce that towards the Holocaust Day the list of "Jews of
Siret: Victims of the Holocaust" will arise online.

Without the generous help of Mr. Bruce I. Reisch (>from the Sadagora and
Radauti ShtetLinks ) this project couldn't go online.

This list was copied >from a Memorial plate in the Siret Temple to plates
which, for years, resided in the Nadworna Yeshiva in Bnei Brak. When the
Holon cemetery Memorial Monument (Holon, Israel) was erected, the following
names were inscribed on the Monument.

This is not a complete list because each name was supplied by Holocaust
survivors. It is possible to add to this list or to update the data (kindly
send your information to Marc Goldberger (at marina778@... ). The
names were translated >from Hebrew so it is possible that there are some
differences with the original name.

The list is located in Radauti ShtetLinks:

Borisov - Etta-Bryna and Yehudah (Levi) #belarus

Israel P <isai8v10@...>

Following Dave Fox' suggestion the other day - and since it's been nearly five
years since I posted this question - here is my main challenge in this geographic
area.

My great-grandmother was named Etta Bryna, but we don't know her surname.
She was married to Israel David ROSENBLOOM, of Borisov, but we have no idea if
she was >from Borisov or elsewhere. She had her children >from about 1880 and
died when they were young, so she was probably born around 1860.

Her father was Yehudah and he was a Levi. We know that >from a drawing of her
grave, which has since been lost.

If someone has a Yehudah who is a Levi with a daughter Etta Bryna born about
1860, I'd be pleased to hear about it.

Today 6 Elul, is her 108th yahrzeit.

I was wondering if anyone had any information about some family history that
I have been unable to confirm and more clearly understand. My paternal
grandfather whose name was BENSIONOV (later changed to BENJAMIN) came from
Bobroisk in what is now Belarus. I know that the family was in this area

originally came >from Turkey (someone came to study at a yeshiva in the area
as the story goes) and that they were Sephardic. Any feedback would be
helpful. Thanks!

Dear Listers,
I thought I'd re-post the family names >from Belarus that

near Mogilev, and FREEDKIN (Fradkin/Fretkin) >from Gomel. I am

Krasnapollye, Cherikov, and Mogilev between 1850-1905. The various shtetl-finders (JewishGen's, Chester Cohen's, and WHERE ONCE WE WALKED) have been of little help. The only significant info I've found has been in the ENCYCLOPEDIA OF JEWISH LIFE BEFORE AND DURING THE HOLOCAUST, and--greedy as I am--I would like still more. Thanks
