Hi,

I know (according to the Given Names database and Message Archives)that the
association of given names Mark/Mordekhai was quite "classical" but I haven't
found any recorded link between Meir and Mark as a combination of given names.
Do any of you have examples of such a combination?
Thanks

"I wanted to make available to this list a

survey documents for Chevra Tillem Kesser Israel

survey of state and local historical records,
including church records in 1939. There is a list of

internet:

She mentioned all the information that could be
obtained. I am looking for Chevra Ohave Shalom Anshei
Bukaczowce >from Brooklyn, East New York section and
even though I looked the list up and down could not
find a match. There were several Ohav Sholems (varied
spellings) but I thought these might be too general?
I always value your suggestions. Thanks in advance.

This is a photo of my grandfather, Elias Weidenfeld. It was taken in
Galicia, and he was born in 1872. If someone could look at the photo and
give me any details, and about when it may have been taken, I would be most
appreciative. He came to the US in 1909, so it was taken before then.

Thanks very much,

I have attempted to research my father's will. He died on 08/17/1979 and I
have never seen a copy of the will. I thought that I filled out the required
information on line but got an error message. Any suggestions would be most
appreciated. Thanks.

I will soon be publishing my family's genealogy so it will be searchable by
Google. I do plan to remove personal information for living people, such as
birthdates. As a webmaster concerned with privacy this seems appropriate.

Am I on the right track here? As Yehuda said, I want to facilitate finding
ancestors to others searching online, as I am the first to ever catalogue
the family tree.
Names and family relations are also sensitive personal information.
Also, keep in mind that there are other people making list of jews, and
you don't want to give them a hand. You should definitely avoid
publishing any information (even names) of living people who haven't
explicitly given their permission.

As for the recently dead, a good rule of thumb is to consider the
privacy rules that different countries have for personal information.
Privacy laws are usually passed for a good reason... E.g. Lithuania has
a new law under which archive records are only released after 100 years.
Under Swedish laws, privacy considerations for paper archives lapse
after 70 years. Etc. In sensitive issues like these it is better to err
on the conservative side. If you exclude data on dead people >from the
last, lets say, seventy years you will still have a good chance that
Google will turn up something useful when your relative search for their
ancestors while providing a decent "cordon sanitaire" of privacy for the
living.

The same considerations should apply to uploading family trees to FTJP.

Of course, if you restrict access only to family members, you can make
information available more readily.

Simon

Re: Application to Naturalize #usa

Ann Rabinowitz <annrab@...>

You should look in the Port of Galveston arrival records as that may be
where your great grandfather arrived in Texas. I found one of my Lithuanian
relatives who arrived there and later went onto California before leaving
and finally settling in Buenos Aires, Argentina. What a journey he had!!!

Jews were very mobile and looked for the best commercial opportunities when
they came to America. In addition, because the large cities of the eastern
seaboard in America became crowded with immigrants, authorities gave them
opportunities to move onward to settle in other places such as the south and
midwest and therefore you will find them in various odd places, especially
small towns in the south.

This might have been covered before, but my searches of the Jewishgen
files turned up thousands of hits and I couldn't find the right one.

I would like to write away for WWI military records for relatives who served
in both Germany and Austria. Does anyone know the proper contact information?
Thank you,
