Greetings,

I am trying to determine which town(s) named Dabrowa (in Poland) are
associated with the following society burial plots in New York. Perhaps some
of you have family >from there and are familiar with the origins of these
societies. There are ninety-six different Dabrowas listed in ShetlSeeker, so
please be specific. The society plot names are:
Chevra Agudath Achim Anshe Dombrowa (Washington Cemetery)
Chevra Bnei Rabbi Menachem Mendel Anshei Dubrowa (Beth David,
Washington and Mt. Judah)
Chevra Kadishe Bnai Rappaport Anshe Dabrower (Washington)
Congregation Bnei Rappaport Anshei Dombrowa (Mt. Hebron)
Dombrower Society, Inc. (Mt. Zion).

Thank you very much.

Lonely in Lukow #general

Joseph Fibel <jfibel@...>

Toby Greenwald asks if she is the only researcher for Lukow, Poland and
frankly I don't know the answer to this question.

Part of the answer to Toby or any new poster is that she has not mentioned
what she has already done to answer this question for herself.

The most obvious thing that she might have done was to scour the JGFF for
fellow researchers and if so what has been her findings, as recommended by
the moderator.

The second thing is to have looked for a Yizkor Book for the community, If
one exists and it is not translated, a necrology list may be helpful.

Has she (I assume "she" hopefully correctly) searched the JRi Poland for
this community or near by communities (for her surnames.)?

Has she looked at the Ellis Island Data Base (entered with or without the
help of Stephen Morse through the Jewishgen home page?

Has she looked in the Yad VaShem data base for Lukow pages of Testimony
(POT's)and Yad Vashems Extraordinary Commission Report for the community.?

How about a Landsmanshaft Record at YIVO and or The American Jewish
Historical Society, and a Cemetery Plot with burials.

A visit to a local Mormon Family History Library with a look at their index
will tell you if there are film rolls about the community that have not been
recorded in the JRI Poland.

If you, Toby, have done any or all or none of these things, your posting
should have mentioned this so that responders can know to make these
suggestions or others.

And finally, (probably initially,) you should go into this group's as well
the JRI-Pol archive and list the shtetls name and see what has been written
previously about it (if anything)

In other words, when new posters go on line to ask questions, it is very
helpful for them to advise what they have already done.

In any case, good luck on your search. If you are persistent and keep
lucking, you will soon be one of the world's greatest experts on your area.
I have mentioned JRI-Pol abbove but the same applies to any other research
area.

My Grandfather's House documentary-additional broadcasts #general

Eileen Douglas <faithdouglas@...>

Dear JewishGeners,

In March, when I posted notice that the Documentary Channel would be
airing our documentary "My Grandfather's House" early last month, I was
not aware that, in fact, the Documentary Channel would be playing our
film many more times. For those with access to EchoStar's Dish Network,
we are pleased to tell you, the documentary is being aired many times
(and will do so repeatedly over the next two years, until the end of
2007). The Documentary Channel is DISH Channel 197.
For example, this week it airs Wednesday, April 5th at 12 noon until
1:15 p.m.
Also, on Friday, April 7th at 3:45 p.m. until 5 p.m.
The Documentary Channel lists its schedules on its website.
www.documentarychannel.com-----and hit Schedule. Often they only program
a few days in advance, so you may need to check >from time to time.
My Grandfather's House follows this filmmaker (Eileen Douglas) in
her determined search to find the house her grandfather lived in, and
fled, in 1911, in Kovno, Lithuania, to escape conscription in the Tsar's
Army. Scenes of Kovno are prominent in the second section.
Thanks for watching! Eileen Douglas

P.S. And, for those interested in a screening event or DVD or video,
please respond to me privately, and we will happily connect you with
Cinema Guild, our distributor.

Tyszowce, Lublin Gub., indexing update #general

Kirsten Gradel <kirsten.gradel@...>

Zamosc area researchers.

Jewish Records Indexing-Poland is pleased to inform you about the
indexing status for the town of Tyszowce .

Tyszowce is located in Lublin Gub. at 5037/2342 and is one of the
bigger towns among the 24 included in the Zamosc PSA project. In
1921 it had a Jewish population of 2451.

It is situated dead center of a square marked by Zamosc, Hrubieszow,
Krylow and Tomaszow Lubelski. The closest Jewish registry towns are
Komarow and Laszczow.

BMD for 1826-70, 1876-90, all filmed by the Mormons, were recently
indexed; this file contains 6945 entries.

Furthermore, the years 1871-75, 1891-02, are indexed as part of JRI-
Poland PSA poroject, 2300 entries in all.

So it is a substantial file of 9250 entries which now awaits
publication in the JRI-Poland database.

Interested researchers are welcome to contact me to hear more about
these files and learn whether their family names appear in this
database.

ROSENBERG, Brooklyn, about 1900 #general

JUSTICEOFP

My great-uncle Moses I. ROSENBERG lived on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn >from
1900-192?. My uncle mentioned four of Moses's children in his 1950s will:
Robert ROSENBERG
Mildred ROSENBERG SILVERSTEIN
Sadie ROSENBERG
and Eli ROSENBERG
The 1900 census for 51 Atlantic Avenue listed the children as Sadie age
20, Mollie age 17, Doria age 14, Robert age 7, and Fannie age 5.
In the 1910 census, Fannie was named Frances. Eli, the only child born in
the US, was 9 years old.
Sadie was working in her father's dry goods store.
I would like to learn the names of Moses's parents, more information
about the family, and where they may be buried.

what sources list siblings of deceased immigrants to Vienna? #austria-czech

Logan J. Kleinwaks

A relative of mine immigrated to Vienna >from Galicia between 1893 and 1904,
and died in Vienna in 1905. I know his name, date of death, date of burial,
where he is buried in Vienna, year of birth, parents' names, siblings names,
and an address in Vienna. Based on non-Viennese sources, I strongly suspect
that a person who remained in Galicia and died after him was a brother of
his, but my attempts to learn that person's parents' names or other
information linking the two have failed.

What Viennese sources might supply the names of siblings, nieces, or nephews
of this person? I am unfamiliar with Viennese sources, but gather >from the
SIG website that the Heraldic-Genealogical Society "Adler" might have death
notices with such information. Is the Magistrat der Stadt Wien the
appropriate place to inquire about wills? Are there any other sources I
should consult?

Thanks very much and best regards,
