More info on FRISCHMAN #general

yehuda frischman

Dear Friends,

Having now found the death certificates and cemetery
where my GG Grandparents Shimshon Shmuel FRISCHMAN,
and Mariam Ackerman Frischman are buried, I would like
to try and connect with cousins descended >from them.
Having spoken at length with my 82 year old father(may
he be of healthy mind and body until 120!), I have
been able to determine the following:

1. Leo (Yehuda, who I was named for and the father of
my father) , married the former Rose Schwartz,
daughter of Josef Shmulowitz Schwartz of Scranton, Pa.

2. Dr. Louis (Eluzer, my middle name)Frischman,a
pediatrician, married the former Winnie Thompson.
3. Harry Frischman (no information concerning spouce
of children).
4. Hannah married Sam Klein, had children and
grandchildren, but unfortunately, the last contact we
had with them was nearly 40 years ago.
5. Ella married Joe Molnar of East New Brunswick, NJ.
No information concerning children.
6. Matilda (Tillie) married Herbert Wilkes. He had a
pharmacy in Chinatown, NYC. I have fond memories of
meeting them as an 8 year old in 1960. To the best of
my knowledge they had no children.
7. May married a Dr. Alexander. My father remembers
that they had a daughter, Gloria.
8. Morris(Moshe). I have a marriage certificate for
him showing his place of birth as BEREGSZASZ, Hungary.
He had two children, Seymour (Shimshon Shmuel) and
Arnold. Arnie, A"H, has a son, Mark, who lives in San
Francisco.
9. Celia. My father tells me that she is a family
mystery. Though a foggy memory, he recalls growing
up hearing that she was unwell, and was sent to live
in a sanitarium in Switzerland.

Any cousins out there?

Re: Possible help with lookups at National Archives, New York, #general

Carole Feinberg

Sarah Lasry, of Israel, asked for help obtaining
naturalization files >from the National Archives
located in New York. I don't know if my response
applies to those living outside the USA.

Sarah writes, "Copies of the naturalization papers can
be obtained >from the National Archives by using the
form you can download. The cost of copies via the mail
is $10.00 for each name."

http://www.italiangen.org/default.htm

I recently ordered and received *three* naturalization
files >from the National Archives located in NYC for
$10.00 USD. >from the web page of the Italian
Genealogical Group: Ten dollars mail order fee, "will
cover up to three records submitted in same request,
as long as the page count does not exceed twenty
pages."

Each of the files I received was three to five pages.
And the turnaround time was only a few weeks.

Please be aware that the above applies only to the
Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, where
many, probably most, Jewish immigrants of the
1880s-1920s USA lived.

Eastern District covered Brooklyn, Staten Island,
Queens, Nassau County, and Suffolk County. Southern
District covered Manhattan, Bronx, and Westchester
County.

Good luck.

Maurois was born in Elboeuf, Normandy,

Brooklyn College Alumni Directory + Re: Looking for Pearl KRAUS Brooklyn, NY #general

Judith27

Roni,
I was hoping I would be able to help you as I recently received my copy of
the 75th Anniversary Edition of the Brooklyn College Alumni Directory for 2005.
However, although I checked a few variant spellings of Kraus - Krauss,
Krause etc -- I did not see a Pearl. All this means though is that she did not
make a contribution or want her name in this college directory.
By the way, the women's names in this directory are listed two ways: under
their maiden name as well as under their married name.
You might try getting in touch with the Brooklyn College Alumni Office to
see if they have any contact information for her:

While this alumni office may not give you an address, it will forward a
letter. That was how I got back in touch with one of my friends >from Brooklyn

whose address they had.

I have recieved a copy of my great-grandmother's death certificate. I
am guessing it was completed by her husband. He lists her father as
Ignatz DEUTSCH and her mother as Mary LEFKOWITZ.

Here is where I am confused. I was originally told that her mother's
maiden name was WEISS. Since then I have found a nephew who said his
grandparents were Julius DEUTSCH and Mary KLEIN.

Is Ignatz and Julius the same thing? Is Julius the Americanization?

How would I figure out if the death certificate is correct with the
maiden name or the information I got >from Frieda's nephew? Or maybe
Mary was married once before and started as LEFKOWITZ, became KLEIN
and then married DEUTSCH? (I don't even begin to know where WEISS
comes in.)

Also, now that I have a date of death, how would I go about finding a
copy of an obituary for Freida whe died 28 Jan 1963 in Nassau County,
New York, USA?

Thank you for all your help.
