Genealogy trip to Hungary and Romania #romania

EriX <erix@...>

Hi all,

Let me present myself. I am a 59 years old retired computer teacher,
formerly Israeli citizen, now living in Sweden but born and grown up in
Timisoara, Romania. I speak fluently Romanian, Hungarian, Hebrew,
English and Swedish, and I can also make myself understood in German.

In search for my family roots I am now planning to make a genealogy trip
to Hungary and Romania, somewhere in April/May next year, 2008. The main
purpose of the trip is to search archives on site, gather documents,
locate headstones in Jewish cemeteries, and - hopefully - find living
relatives.

In order to make the trip both easier and more cost-efficient, I
am looking for researchers with similar plans who are interested to
cooperate on site, share costs for car-rental, need help with the local language,
or just feel the need to share experiences, like I do. Although far >from
being an expert, I am acquainted with the local mentality and may have a good
picture of what it takes to make doors open.

The starting point would be Budapest. Other places I may want to visit
are scattered in E Hungary and W Romania (mainly the Banat area), but I am
aware that improvisation will be a necessity. Except for Budapest, the only
other places I am *sure* to visit is Timisoara and the nearby city of Lugoj.
My own preliminary time frame is set for a total stay of 3-4 weeks, but
that may change depending on circumstances along the way.

Interested? Answer privately to: erix@rixtele.com

Declaration of Intent #belarus

mkaplan27

from Ancestry I learned of the existence of a Declaration of Intent for
Naturalization: New York County, 1907-1924, for a relative of mine. The
original data is referenced as being "New York State Supreme
Court.Declarations of Intention filed in New York County, 1907-1924, County
Clerk's Office, New York County, New York."

I have the petition volume and the petition page.

Where do I go to get a copy of the petition (either by mail or in person, as
I live an hour >from New York City)?

Thanks for your help. (I could not find the answer on the
Internet...probably due to my poor choice of search words in Google).

Help with Sephardic SIG website needed #general

malkajef <malkajef@...>

Hi everyone

My name is Jeff Malka, and I am the Coordinator for JewishGen's
Sephardic SIG.

I am looking for someone with website construction expertise who would
be willing to assist in this task, either as webmaster for the site or
even just as an assistant webmaster who would be willing to spend time
at it.

Although I originally donated the material and created JewishGen's
Sephardic SIG website, I am not an expert in website creation and have
no special tools for the task. Just maintaining my own separate
"Sephardic Genealogy Resources" website is a significant undertaking and
I would therefore appreciate help >from anyone willing to take over the
maintenance and updating of the Sephardic SIG website.

Because the two websites ("Sephardic Genealogy Resources" and JewishGen's
"Sephardic SIG") have evolved quite differently in structure and content
over time, I find I cannot simply duplicate changes and additions I make
on my "Resources for Sephardic Genealogy" website to the JewishGen Sephardic
SIG website pages. They need separate management and handling.

Anyone willing to help would be greatly(!) appreciated. It is mainly
website construction expertise and willingness to create the HTML pages
that I need help with. I can provide the content.

Please contact me privately at malkajef@orthohelp.com if you are willing
to help.
