Wellisch at Wahringer cemetery #austria-czech

Henry Wellisch <henry.kelwel@...>

A number of years ago Mr. Eckstein who is now with the Kultusgemeinde
was kind enough to get the key to this cemetery and we spent some time
there. Later I was able to get the register and found that there are
14 people with the name of Wellisch (Welisch) buried there. The date of
burial ranges between 1814 and 1878. There is no doubt that some of
these people are related to me since a number of them come from
Ragendorf (now Rajka), the ancestral home of the Wellisch family.
I have a photograph of the stone of Abraham Welisch with a beautiful
Hebrew inscription who died in 1814 (or 1812?). Here is a
translation:

My father, (among the clods of earth) that are better than gold
A well that spouted living water he was to souls pained (with toil)
Generous in his wealth and person to orphan and widow, he pained for
his children
Hush! (children?) that he has died and (is no more) and at an advanced
age was brought to his burial place
He was much to many but he's gone, and for his soul as he sleeps he
has made a name for himself while he was yet alive
Through mountains in a storm he travelled to negotiate his death
Lips that spoke beautiful words of an intellect who made (decisions)
through his understanding spirit
He answered properly to him who pursued peace; he was especially
courageous between man and his colleague (or confronter)
May he sleep in God's shade and with the tribe of YESHURUN (1812) may
be his honored rest

According to some documents the WELLISCH >from Ragendorf had the name
of WELLISCH-JESHURUN.

translation of 3 Hebrew letters #austria-czech

Ms Cassia Melissa Partane <cassiapartane@...>

bs'd : I would like to find out if anyone can explain why the people with
grandmother are standing next to an upright stone with 3 Hebrew letters
(visible by magifying glass). The first letter is definitely an ayin; the
2nd letter is a ayin, vav or even nun; the 3rd letter is a tav or a chet.

The address is http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate) in the To View section -
as file - VM10019. OR click on :

http://data.jewishgen.org/ViewMate/ALL/index.asp and see no 19.

Also some men are dressed in a military type uniform, perhaps someone might
be able to explain. (My grandmother lived in Vienna in the 1920's/30's, but
she also seemed to travel a fair bit).

Please respond privately. Thank you.

Re: Addresses using Phone Book #latinamerica

Carlos Glikson

Rochelle Gershenow asked
Are the addresses given in the Argentinian phone book sufficient for
sending a letter? For example, should there be in addition to what is
listed something similar to a zip or postal code?
I am copying below my reply to a similar question in LatamSIG in Nov 2002.

It is still valid except for a change in the second web link I mention.

Hope this helps,

Carlos Glikson

-------------------

As Bill Silverman points out, the white pages on line do not include zip
codes.

You may find Argentina's "zip codes" looking for the Código Postal Argentino
(CPA) at the Argentine mail website CPA search page

http://www.correoargentino.com.ar/cpa/cons.htm

Seleccione una Provincia = Choose a province

Buenos Aires city is an autonomous jurisdiction and is called Capital
Federal, included in the list although it is not a province. For Buenos
Aires city, choose Capital Federal.

Suburban areas in Greater Buenos Aires correspond to the Buenos Aires
province (included in the provinces list). For Greater Buenos Aires areas,
and city and towns in the rest of Buenos Aires Province, choose Buenos
Aires.

Then click Continuar. In the new window,

Nombre de la calle = Name of the street

Altura = door number

Then click on Buscar CPA = search zip, for the postal code.

There are sample envelope images at
http://www.correoargentino.com.ar/cpa/como.htm

(note: this link above is the link in my old mail..
Present link for sample envelope is
http://www.correoargentino.com.ar/consulta_cpa/como.php )

Incoming mail should look as the corresponding sample but should
additionally include Argentina, or República Argentina, in the last line
after the town or city name.

Hope this helps.

Looking for children of Nathan and Celia ABRAMSON #general

Howard Kaufman

Dear Genners,

I am looking for the son (Sammy) and/or daughter (Adele) of Nathan and Celia
ABRAMSON. Nathan and Celia were survivors who settled in Queens,NY and later in
Florida. They both passed away in the 1990's.

Nathan was my mother's cousin, but the details of the relationship were never
explained. I would very much like to make contact with Sammy and/or Adele, and any
help would be appreciated.
