ShtetlSeeker seems the obvious place and has:

Rilishkyay, Ryliškiu, Ryliškiai, Rylishkes Lithuania NNE of Vilnius
Ruliške, Ryliškiu, Ryliškiai, Rylishki Lithuania WSW of Vilnius
Ryl'sk Russia 312.3 miles SSW of Moskva

Raliska and came up with various hotels and a stud farm etc. but all
in a language I couldn't follow. I was told his parents came from
Izbica Kujawska (by word of mouth), that's where I have been doing my

Chaia #ukraine

Silverman, Bill <bsilverman@...>

My grandmother Clara Miller came to the US >from Pinsk in 1921. Her ships
arrival manifest lists her as Chaia. I assume she took the name Clara
because it was close to Chaia. All my ancestors and relatives made
their names sound more American. That's all that was involved. Other
examples are Leibe Zilberman, who became Louis Silverman, Yussel Muszer
who became Joe Miller, and so on.

I, too, was named for my grandmother, Chaya Sura, who, the family story
goes, was given the name Chaya as an ill child. Her name on all documents,
however, was Sarah. My parents, wanting to give me a very American name,
named me Harriet Selma (which I always hated) while my two other female
cousins named for our same grandmother, were named Susan and Sybil. Go
figure!
