LANDSMAN from Vilna - results from viewmate #lithuania

MandJMeyers <mandjmeyers@...>

First of all, thanks to everyone who offered translation help on the
1917 Vilna death record for Ephraim LANDSMAN.
It turns out there were 4 languages involved, a Russian form filled out
in virtually indecipherable Polish and a Hebrew/Yiddish form
filled out in German.

There is a good chance he is related to my GGF Avraham LANDSMAN who died
in Vilna around the same time, likely
a brother.

The death record indicates that Ephraim was 58 years old (hence born
around 1860) while my
GGF was born around 1860 as well (estimate based on Avraham's oldest son
Hirsh/Harry being born in 1881).
The witness on the death certificate was Ephraim's son Hirsh. Ephraim's
parents are listed
as Jacob and Ester LANDSMAN, and Avraham's 2nd son was named Jacob Leib.
Ephraim lived on Sophien Street (not sure where that was). I do know
that Avraham lived near the great
Shul in Vilna.

I'm still searching for the birth records of Avraham's 7 children born
between 1881-1897 in Vilna
as well as his marriage record which should be around 1860 or so.

If any of this sounds familiar, please contact me privately at
<MandJMeyers@...>
and thanks again to all the translators.

A German Jewish family : LANG #general

Eve Line Blum <eve.line.blum@...>

I'm looking for any information concerning a German Jewish family who
lived in Cluny (Saone et Loire, France) in 1944. Their name was LANG.
They had a little boy born between 1932 and 1934. These are the only
clues I have.

My grandfather's sister was named "Etel". My mother's Hebrew name was
also Etel. When I looked up names for my son who was looking for baby
names, I kept getting references to Hebrew origin.

My g.g.g. grandmother's name was Ettel. She was born in Galizia.
Does somebody know what kind of given name it is, German or Yiddish or

Samuel Aaron KARAN #general

Allan S. Karan <akaran@...>

I am looking for brother(s) and sister(s) of Samuel Aaron KARAN. His
surname in Belarus was Choron.

Samuel Aaron KARAN was born on 10 Dec 1867 in Kopula, Belarus. He
arrived (immigrated) on 04 Dec 1901 in New York. His residences were:
(1) 04 Dec 1901, 49 Rutger Street, New York (2)18 Sep 1908, 318 Sutter
Avenue, Brooklyn (3) 09 Jul 1910, 111 Monroe Street, New York (4) 04 Jun
1913, 96 Monroe Street, New York. He died on 07 Mar 1938 in Brooklyn

He had relatives in Chicago, and in the 1950's one of them there was a
lawyer named Karan (I think he died). When Harrison Goldin was elected
Comptroller of NYC my father said that he was a relative, and I think
that this may tie into the Chicago relatives.
