Re: Schlossstrasse in Skalica, Slovakia (?) #austria-czech

Hans Peter Grab <hpgrab@...>

Dear Yohanan,

the streetname in your message varied (Schlossestrasse, Schlosssstrasse and
Sclossstrasse).
First must be clear if you mean Schlosserstrasse (Locksmith street) or
Schlossstrasse (Castle street).
Second you cannot search in Google German street names in Slovak towns. You
must use Slovak street names.
Locksmith street = Zamocnicka ulica. Castle street = Zamocka ulica.
In Bratislava you find both streets. In Skalica you find neither Zamocka,
nor Zamocnicka street.
Town maps you find on the site http://mapy.zoznam.sk (search is also in
English possible).

Best Wishes
Hanus Grab

Re: Photo of Jewish class, Vienna 1934 #austria-czech

Celia Male <celiamale@...>

I believe Yohanan Loeffler of Melbourne Australia has answered his own question
re the reverse of the photograph:

http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=11586
http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=11585

“Josef LOEFFLER im Juni 1934 4. Hauptschulkl(asse) T.T. Wien Zum Andenken.”

Yohanan wrote: Students in this school would probably not continue in “High
school” but go to a Talmud Tora. The T.T. might be the initials of the person
who gave this photo as a memory to my father."

No, I think it refers to the Talmud Tora class [T.T.] at the Chajes Gymnasium.

marriage record verification New York 1945 #general

Irina Fridman

Dear Genners,

Could you, please, advise me how I can find a confirmation of a
marriage, which allegedly took place in New York in 1945?
One of my relatives was married in England in 1937, but then his
wife left to America, and it seems that without divorcing him got
married to somebody else in 1945. The "funny" bit was when the
previous husband, who was left in England, decided to get re-married
in 1950 and contacted her asking for the divorce. I'm trying to verify,
whether the lady in question was bigamous, of just pretended to be
married to the New York getleman.

Thank you very much in advance.

Seeking info re Yechiel COHEN #general

ellen <ecm@...>

In 1892 or 1893, my Great Uncle Yechiel (sp) Cohen and his twin, Meyer
Henick Cohen, were born in (sounds like) Nadra Venz, Poland. Their parents
were Samuel Cohen and Hannah Rousch. Although I have found information
about Meyer, I have found nothing about Yechiel or his parents. The twins and
three or four other brothers came to NYC. At one time, Yechiel lived in New
Jersey and had a business there. If anyone knows of this family or how I
might search further, I would appreciate hearing >from you.

Thank you for reading this.
