Please help me in finding a Petition for Naturalization for my great
aunt, Fannie Sperling (1888-1971). I have a poor copy of the document,
and I can read that it was submitted in the US District Court in
Washington, DC, in 1934. It is numbered 10766.

Contact the court and ask them about their records. They could
likely be with the court themselves even dating back to 1934.

I am sure you can find the court on the Internet. Call them or write
them. With the number and date it should be easy but it might require
someone to go to the court to get a copy for you.

Anyone know what L.P.C. means..

"Likely to become a public charge. " This not necessarily a medical
issue. It means that the person did not seem to have a means of making a
financial living able to sustain themselves. Could have been medical due to
something as simple a limp.

Bucharest to Bombay to New York? #general

Sheri <iguana7slp@...>

I'm trying to find information on a family named JUROVSKY that arrived in
New York in 1941. They were Russians who had been living in Bucharest, and
according the the passenger list they embarked >from Bombay India. Their
passports were issued in Bombay just a few days before they set sail in
August.

Is it possible to get copies of passport applications >from Bombay? Why
would they travel >from Bucharest to Bombay to get to New York? Would there
be any other records >from Romania I could search? I have been unable to
find any traces of them after their arrival in the US.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Wietze Cemetery, Germany #general

Gershon Markowitz <gershontikunim@...>

Hi all,

I have uncovered a few different ITS records >from Bad Arolsen which states
that my father's first cousin died >from an illness in June 1945. Her last
known address was Belson, and she was buried at Wietze Cemetery. One of the
records even details the exact burial plot location. On one record the
cemetery is listed as Wietze-Kurhaus; on another Wietze Kr. Celle. Does
anyone know exactly where this cemetery might be. We are interested in
locating her gravesite.

If it would help, I can email the relevant ITS records to anyone who might
be able to help.

Thanks in advance,

Gershon Markowitz

Re: GOLDMAN and Zwehill (?) Dynasty... #galicia

Renee Steinig

Karen Roekard <roekard@...> asked about a Hasidic dynasty
possibly named "Zwehill". with connections to the town Brzezany
(now Berezhany) and to the surname GOLDMAN.

The town now known as Novohrad Volynskyy, Ukraine, was called
Zvhil in Yiddish. Other alternate names include Zviagel, Zvihil,
Zvil, Zwiahl, and Zwiahel. (See the JewishGen Communities Database
<http://data.jewishgen.org/wconnect/wc.dll?jg~jgsys~shtetm~-1048276>.)

A little googling led to a Wikipedia article about the Zhvil
Hasidic dynasty, which originated with Rabbi Moshe of Zvhil:
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zvhil_(Hasidic_dynasty)>
According to this article, Rabbi Moshe's son was Yechiel Michl
GOLDMAN.

Novohrad Volynskyy / Zhvil -- 143 miles northeast of Berezhany --
was in the Russian province of Volhynia before World War I.
However, Rabbi Moshe's father, Rabbi Yechiel Michl, was the
Maggid of Zlotshev (Zolochiv) -- a once Galician town that's 24
miles north of Berezhany.

I spent Father's Day looking for the buildings my Grandfather lived in and
found all four places have been razed for schools or housing projects.
I am looking for pictures of 96 & 111Monroe (1913), 287 Henry (1918)
and 49 Rutgers (1902) Streets

Researching:
KARAN, CHORON, KHARAKH (Kopyl; Grozovo; Chepeli; Slutsk, Belarus),

thank you for your responses
to clarify: this is neither a cousin or an uncle.
However, I don't know if the person listed on the 1920 census
was my paternal relative or not.
