The second grave stone is of Jennie GOLDBERG's brother Philip GOLDBERG and I
am looking for his father's name (Which should be Max) and the English
equivalent.

Here is a link to the Pittsburgh Jewish Newspaper project that has
digitized and OCRed the contents. I didn't find the STUBINSKY you are
looking for.

Good luck,

I'm researching my great-grandmother Sarah STUBINSKY.
<snip>
Sara's address is listed as Robinson Street (Oakland) Pittsburgh, PA.

3. Does anyone have any advice how to proceed with my search?
Unfortunately, there is no known family that I can connect to my great
grandmother to further my search or leads.

Re: German Litvaks #general

Sandra Levy <shula2933@...>

Many Lithuanians tried to obtain or claimed Prussian citizenship so as
not to be drafted into the Russian army. This is also one of the
reasons why many Litvaks changed their names to more German sounding
names. Also confined to live in the Pale of Settement Jews were not
free to travel wherever they wanted and most could not enter
non-Jewish areas unless they had special permits. Those who made it to
Memel and got German citizenship were then free to travel as they
pleased.

Also Germany was known for its doctors. Rabbi Israel Lipkin Salanter
moved >from Lithuania to Prussia to obtain medical tratment >from German
doctors.

My family in Russia also went to Germany to the doctor, and my gg
uncle was born in a hospital, according to his descendents - this
was about 1860! They lived in the then-border town of Raczki near
Augustow.

They also said they were Litvaks - but I don't think they meant
'>from Lithuania' which didn't exist. Litvaks were the Northern
Ashkenazi, regardless of country; the Galicianers lived in the South,
again regardless of country. However there were many cultural
differences (which you can check online), and if a Litvak moved to
Ukraine they stayed Litvaks - at least most did.

Where is my uncle, Jacob WEINBERG? #general

sue kriloff

Dear Genners,

i am looking for my father's brother, Jacob WEINBERG, born 1/5/19,
Warsaw, Poland. Can you find him? In 1947, uncle Jacob came to Belgium
where he waited to go to Palestine. He never made it to Palestine.
Instead, he was sent to a refugee center in Brussels, Belgium. He
wrote a number of letters to the Belgian government about his poor
health resulting >from the camps, how terribly he was treated in
Belgium, and his desire to leave Belgium. In 1948, the Belgian
government removed him >from the refugee center and sent him back
to Poland. The Belgian and Polish governments don't know where he
was sent to in Poland.

He had an attorney while he was in the refugee center. The
attorney's name is unknown. I thought the attorney's records would
say where he went. I cannot locate these records.

Where is uncle Jacob?

I have done extensive research and cannot find the answer to this
question. I don't know where else to search. It will take great minds
to answer this question. Genners, you have great minds. Can you find
uncle Jacob?

Sincerely,
Sue Kriloff

The book (in German, I think) gives, as far as is known to the
authors, details of each Rabbi's "descent, education, career as a
Rabbi, family and religious position".

I am looking for GRINBERG / GREENBERG family >from Letichev, Nowo

I found a few families related to MEDOVOY / MEDOVOI / MEDOVAYA and
Kalyhzner / Kalushiner / Kalish and Isirov in searching Yadvashem

There seems to be part of the family that was Romanian as the
