Martina Berner <MartinaBerner@...>

Berlin - Minsk

My name is Martina Berner, I study at the Humboldt University of Berlin and I
take part in a project at the Institue for German History of the 20th century
(Prof. Dr. Wildt). In this project we are trying to research the biographies
of Jews >from Berlin who were deported >from Berlin to Minsk by the Nazis in the
years 1941 and 1942.

We are looking for relatives and acquaintances who can give information about
the lifes of these people. As I have already found someone through
JewisGen.org, I am very optimistic to get in contact with other descandants
too.

Please contact me and I will give you further information about the project.
We are grateful for any support!

Many regards, Martina Berner

GEVANER / GUVENIR #galicia

Mary Greenfro <Greenfro@...>

Hi,

I have been doing genealogy research of my Jewish Eastern
European relatives. Today, I found a document that lists my GG
grandmother in Dobromil, Austria/Poland. The document found
was a copy of my grandfather Samuel MORGENSTERN's death
certificate issued by the City of New York in 1932. He was 56
years old at the time of his death. His mother's maiden and
surname was listed as Mollie GUVENIR or GEVANER. Legibility is
somewhat unclear. I estimate that she was probably born
around 1850.

I have not found any information on the name GEVANER.

I "googled" the name GUVENIR and it appears to be a Turkish
word. I have been told that Turkish surnames were patronymic
and that the surname GUVENIR was not possible in Turkey
before 1920's.

Question:

Any thoughts about how a Jewish woman, in the 1850's, in
Austria/Poland, surname GUVENIR, could have been of Turkish
derivation or ancestry?

I would be very appreciative of your response.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Mary Greenfro

Radomysl landsmanshaft plots #galicia

Renee Steinig

There were two shtetlekh named Radomysl in western Galicia:

Radomysl / Radomysl Wielki / Gross (Big) Radomysl
- near Mielec

Radomysl / Radomysl nad Sanem / Klein (Small) Radomysl
- near Tarnobrzeg

In addition there was a town in the Russian Empire with that name:

Radomysl / Radomyshl - near Kiev

I'm trying to determine which Radomysl is associated with each of
these cemetery plots:

Bnai Jacob Anshe Radimishle
Washington Cemetery, Brooklyn NY - Section 3, Post 239

Chevra Bnai David Anshei Radamyshler
New Mount Lebanon, Iselin NJ - Block 5, Map #120

First Chevra Bnei David Anshei Radamyshler
Union Field Cemetery, Ridgewood NY - Block 15

If you have a relative buried in one of these cemetery sections and
know which Radomysl the family was from, I'd appreciate hearing
from you.
Thanks.

This is a remarkable and poignant resource. The different sections of =
the directory are in random order so one does need to download all of =
the pdfs and rearrange them or click on Read Online and browse. I was =
able to find listings for relatives in Debrecen, Kosice, and Nyiregyhaza =
among others. Note that place names are all in Hungarian and that the =
directory includes places in Slovakia, Romania, etc. that Hungary lost =
in the Treaty of Trianon but were ceded back by the First and Second =
Vienna Awards.

It is remarkable to see the names of so many Hungarian Jews, most of whom
probably perished less than a year >from the date the book was published. Zoltan
Vero, my second cousin's father, is among the Debrecen business people listed.
According to military records he lost his life on the Russian front in Jan

Dear Mr. Fuchs,

I tried to access the phone book you mentioned below. When I merely

Could you please verify the link?
