Click onto the link below to see full details of the moving exhibition
telling the story of The Boys - the 300+ boys and a few girls who
were air-lifted >from Prague at the end of the war, and brought to
Calgarth near Windermere in the Lake District.

The website has several "pages" of background details, photographs, and
the story of how The Boys adapted and built new lives for themselves
in Manchester, London and other parts of the UK.

http://www.anotherspace.org.uk/a2a/

Since visiting the exhibition in its infancy at the Windermere Library
in October 2010 and then again at the end of last year, we have been
working very closely with Mr Trevor Avery who has set up the
exhibition, to bring it to Manchester. In the meantime, what started
as a small local (temporary) exhibition, has now grown to a big
permanent exhibition with the help of Heritage funding and the
Manchester launch will take place on Wednesday, 27th July.
The exhibition will be on temporary display at the United Synagogue, Meade
Hill Road, off Middleton Road, Manchester M8 4LP and full details will
be sent by e-mail. There will also be a press release nearer the
time.

This is a "must see" for everyone and it is impossible to put into
words the impact it had on me and other committee members the first
time we saw it.

LEVINSON, Herman Joshua Hessel from Goldingen #general

Martha Lev-Zion <martha@...>

I finally got ahold of the naturalisation record in King County,
Washington, of Herman Joshua Hessel LEVINSON, >from Goldingen, Courland.
According to it, he arrived in the USA on the 4th of March 1904 and made
application for his naturalisation on 19 Sept 1910. There was a note
that the date listed as the date of entry was actually the date of his
emigration >from Hamburg, Germany. Nonetheless, by just entering the
year, I have been unable to locate his manifest on the Ellis Island
Database. Knowing how totally fouled up the transliteration of names is
in that database, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. Perhaps I wasn't
creative enough to think of enough variations of mistaken
transliterations, but I just cannot find his entry. Can anyone help?

Many thanks in advance!

Massachusetts Archives: Has this situation happened before? #general

Mark London <mrl@...>

Hi - Here in Massachusetts, every 5 years, state records older than 90
years, are transferred >from the Dept of Health, to the Mass state
archives. This has recently occurred for the records >from 1915-1920.
Originally we were told this would take about 4-6 weeks to transfer the
records. Now the archives have decided to allow the Mormons to digitize
the records (certificates). This process is going to take 18 months,
during which time the records will not be available at all (except for a
small portion that are on microfilm). Of course, people can still get
copies of such records, by purchasing them >from the city. But I'm curious
to know if such a situation has occurred in other states. Thanks. - Mark

Update to the 1916-1920 vital records project: We are finalizing an
agreement with FamilySearch.org/Genealogical Society of Utah to digitize
the entirety of the 1916-1920 vital records. This process will last
approximately 18 months >from the start date, which will be as soon as
possible. During this time, the vital records not available on microfilm
will be inaccessible until the completion of the project. Autumn had
provided a list of available microfilm in our last News email and a PDF of
that list is attached, for your convenience. It is our belief that the
final product - full electronic access to our 1841-1920 vital records on
our website - will be of enormous benefit to our researchers, near and
far. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience experienced by our
researchers over the course of this effort. If you have any questions or
concerns, please let us know:

Click onto the link below to see full details of the moving exhibition
telling the story of The Boys - the 300+ boys and a few girls who
were air-lifted from Prague at the end of the war, and brought to
Calgarth near Windermere in the Lake District.

The website has several "pages" of background details, photographs, and
the story of how The Boys adapted and built new lives
for themselves in Manchester, London and other parts of the UK.

http://www.anotherspace.org.uk/a2a/

Since visiting the exhibition in its infancy at the Windermere Library
in October 2010 and then again at the end of last year, we have been
working very closely with Mr Trevor Avery who has set up the
exhibition, to bring it to Manchester. In the meantime, what started
as a small local (temporary) exhibition, has now grown to a big
permanent exhibition with the help of Heritage funding and the
Manchester launch will take place on Wednesday, 27th July. The
exhibition will be on temporary display at the United Synagogue, Meade
Hill Road, off Middleton Road, Manchester M8 4LP and full details will
be sent by e-mail. There will also be a press release nearer the time.

This is a "must see" for everyone and it is impossible to put into
words the impact it had on me and other committee members the first
time we saw it.
