Ships to and from Cuba #general

Selma Neubauer <sweethawk2@...>

Here's a brick wall I never faced before. Trying to help a neighbor do her
family's genealogy. She says that her father came to the U.S. in 1922 >from Cuba.
We found his naturalization and certificate of arrival which indicate that he
arrived on the "Governor Cobb" at Tampa, Florida in December 1922 >from Cuba.
How did he get to Cuba? Were any of the ships >from Europe stopping at Havana,
Cuba in 1922 or before? I suppose that he got to his parents in Philadelphia PA
by train. Thanks! Selma

Can this surname be from Hungary #general

Mathilde

Shalom,

On a tombstone the surname is inscribed in Hebrew
Tet-Shin-Ain-Vav-Ain.
If any one is familiar with that name that may be >from Hungary, can
she/he tell how to spell it it in Latin letters and how to pronounce
it.

Please reply privately.
Many thanks in advance,

Eleanor Goldsholl Gordon asked: Given the distance >from Rypin to DIvin,
would such a marriage have been feasible? I looked at a map and estimated
the distance to be about 120 miles or more, but I am not very good at
estimating distance.

Well Eleanor, you dont have to estimate...that's why we have the JewishGen
Gazetteer...here are the steps:
1. go to the gazetteer (click on databases or go directly to
http://www.jewishgen.org/Communities/LocTown.asp
2. enter Divin in Belarus and note down the latitude/longitude (5158/2435)
3. return to the gazeteer and enter Rypin in Poland, then click on
"show the distance from"...
and put in the location you just noted down for Divin (5158/2435)
4. the distance is 230 miles!

happy hunting....

Dear Anne!

I can hardly wait.

One question: does "totally bilingual" mean that simultaneous
interpretation will be available?

Thanks,

Yes this is what it means. This is the reason why it is shorter than usual.
And also that all the documents will be translated, that you will have tours
in english, that the films will at least have subtitles, etc.

So see you next year in Paris!

Searching for Edward Joseph Samuel #general

Christine Wheeler <chrisglorcath@...>

Hello

My name is Christine Wheeler and I am searching for some information
about my grandfather Joseph Edward SAMUEL whose wife's name was Ruth.
In discussion with family members, all we have been able to ascertain
was that he lived somewhere in India: Mangalore or Banglore before
migrating to Karachi, Pakistan. My grandparents had 10 children, my
mother being the fifth child.

We do not know if he was born in India or migrated with his family to
India (>from where, we don't know). My question is: how do I look for
my grandfather's ancestry with very little information. We believe he
was born about 1887 and we know he died in 1936 in Karachi. I have
been searching on your site but the closest I've come to is a Joseph
Edward Samuel married to a Ruth Peekviham in 1922. While the dates of
birth that we have for our grandparents are closely coincide with
yours, the marriage date does not - their oldest child (my Aunt) was
born in 1913.

Any help you can give me in proceeding with my search would be most
helpful. Thank you.

Dear Genners,

Also, if my ancestor lived in=A0Entre Rios (in one of the colonies of
