Hello,
I have put up 5 records >from AGAD on View Mate. They are the Birth
records for my Great-Grandmother Bertha/Bassie Tillinger and 3 of her
siblings - Rachel/Regina, Jozef, and Salomon Isaak. The pages appear
to be in Polish but could have some German also since they are from
they late 1800's in Stanislwow. Any help with any kind of translation
would be greatly appreciated.

ViewMate transcription requests -- Old German script #general

I have posted 2 images on viewmate, scanned by me >from paper copies I
bought >from the Polish State Archives. They are birth records >from the
1870's, with many comments >from later dates (early 20th century). Most of
the text is in German, a small bit in Polish. Both great great uncles
(brothers) were born in Lemberg (Lwow, L'viv) and lived in Vienna.
The family moved to Vienna some time to the late 1870, the parents'
marriage was registered in Vienna in 1881.

Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles Exhibit on Jewish Homegrown History #general

Jan Meisels Allen

The Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, CA (USA) opened an exhibit on
"Jewish Homegrown History: Immigration, Identity and Intermarriage," that
will run through September 2, 2012. "Jewish Homegrown History" explores how
home movies can illuminate the story of California Jewry - a community tied
closer than most to the project of film. This exhibit is the brainchild of
The Labyrinth Project, a hybrid art collective and digital research group
based at the University of Southern California. In addition to the movies
there is an interactive computer station where visitors can explore a
companion website:

Re: Uncle and nephew. #germany

Sally Bruckheimer

This was very common. Even my ex-husband, who came >from a big family,
had a sister 20 years older than he was - and he wasn't the youngest,
he had a brother who 6 years younger, as I remember.

One of my ggrandmothers was one of 20 kids (with records, conveniently,
ask Gerhard Buck), the youngest born 1880 when she was 46, the oldest
1835, when she was 20. The oldest one had a child, Moritz, in 1865,
who would have been 15 when his Aunt Fanni was born.

She could have started a little younger and stopped a little older, too.
It wasn't a record, I am sure.

Mystery of house number 155 3/4 #galicia

Henryk Gruder <henrygruder@...>

Following advice of couple of very knowledgeable members of this
community I would like to ask the question:

This is still about "secrets" of the house numbers in Lvov/ Lemberg
/ Lwow / Lviv.

This number (155 3/4 or 154 3/4) keeps appearing in my family
records in 1840s and 1850s. I would like to know if it is a public
(synagogue, hospital, community) building or a private one (in 1871
r directory it looks like a private one, but a map >from this time shows
an apparently public building of this number).

It is very important, since it is often the only link between different
persons with the same surname.

I am sure there are among us much more experienced researchers
than myself. With your extensive experience, did you come across of
this number often (which would confirm its public status)?

Thanks for help,

Henryk Gruder,
