Dear Genners:

I'm searching for JACOBSON descendents ,relatives of my great grandmother,
Tauba(JACOBSON) SACKS (born ca. 1850), and mother of my grandfather Mendel
SACKS. (ZAK). Both families are >from Pandelys (Ponidel),Zarasai
Uyzed,Kaunas, Lithuania.
The only information I have to start with is the memory of my Aunt Florence
(born 1917). She remembers her mother taking her to visit a Jacobson cousin
of her father who was a Doctor but not a medical Doctor.
I assume that he was a professor at a college or university not far >from the
Bronx,NY where they lived.
Please contact me if you are a member of this family or have information
about them. I expect the visits took place around the time period of
1923-1930. Is there a way to determine the faculties of schools in the New
York City area for that time Period ?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Seeking information about possible descendants of Julius Joseph MEIER born
18.1.1907 in Pohl Goens Germany. Julius had a brother Theodore Richard
born 2.7.1901 - they were the children of Sara nee WALLER b 1875 in
Grosskrotzenburg-Main and Hermann MEIER b 1872. Sara died in 1925 in
Pohl Goens and Hermann re-married but both he and his 2nd wife were murdered
in the Shoah. Richard immigrated to the USA in 1936, married and lived in
Baltimore until his death in in 1972 - no children. Julius immigrated to
Argentina - Buenos Aires - in 1930.- I have his shipping details.
Family and friends of Richard's late wife confirm that Richard made
several trips to see his brother in Buenos Aires over the years, but no one
seems to have information as to an address or even if Julius married.
Descendants of Hermann MEIER's siblings confirm knowledge of Julius but not
of his exact whereabouts. Argentinian Jewish websites have not provided
any further information, can anyone advise how to solve the mystery of
where Julius lived/died?
Thanking you in anticipation. Patricia Wilson (Israel)

Do you recognize the family in this picture? #general

I've posted a picture of my grandfather, Joseph FREIMAN, (standing in
center) with a family I believe are relatives.

I am guessing the picture was taken around 1908.
It is on ViewMate at the following address

Please respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application.

Thank you very much.

Dear Siggers,

Belarus SIG will shortly obtain an English translation of the Vileika
District 1888 Family List.

There is more data available for translation but we need to raise
some more money before we can go ahead.

If you have family in Vileika this will be potentially very important
to your research.

Please give generously, by going to:

Latvia SIG #Latvia "Who do you think you are?" - May 4 show #latvia

Marion Werle <werle@...>

For those of you in the US who missed the latest episode of "Who do you
think you are?", the show traced the maternal line of Rashida Jones
(daughter of Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton), Ashkenazic Jews who came from
Aizpute, Latvia. Archivist Rita Bogdanova of the LSHA is also shown with the
results of her Latvian research.

Check out the Latvia SIG homepage (http://www.jewishgen.org/latvia/) for a
link to the episode of the show on the NBC website. Note that it is not
available for overseas viewing - not sure about Canada.

JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Researching: KRAWZINSKI and KRAVCHUK #general

Robert Kraft <bobalicek@...>

I am trying to find any record of my great-grandfather Ansul KRAVCHUK
who was a tailor in the area of Poland that is now Lithuania.

My father, Ansel KRAFT (Kravchuk) was born in Kossovo, Belarus in 1903.
His father was Abraham KRAVCHUK b. 1868 [not born in Kossovo].

Abraham Kraft's father was Anshul KRAVCHUK. Abraham's first son was
named Leizer so I believe Anshul's father to be Leizer KRAVCHUK, but
I have not found any record of this.

Abraham Kraft immigrated to the USA in 1905. His arrival manifest stated
his contact was his brother Hyman KRAFT. Hyman Kraft was born in
Veisiejai [54:06N 23:42E] At that time Poland now Lithuania.
Hyman immigrated to the USA in 1898 under the name of Chiam KRAWZINSKI.
He was born in 1868 and was a tailor.
I have traced Hymans descendants and have ascertained that Hyman was a
cousin not a brother to my grandfather Abraham Kraft. [Hyman had a
brother Araham CRAFT [KRAWZINSKI],a tailor b. 1880.]
I have found Abraham Craft's descendants in London England.
The father of both Hyman Kraft and Abraham Craft was named David.[ As
stated on their grave stones]

I believe that David KRAWZINSKI and my great-grandfather Anshul KRAVCHUK
were brothers but I have no proof of this.

Any help in solving this would be most appreciated

Thanks and all the best

JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen RE: A Surprise for a Lucky Few in the 1940 US Census #general

Meron Lavie

I have seen other examples of this such as the enumerator writing down
the specific city of birth for immigrants. Unfortunately, he did this for
relatives of mine whose city of birth was already known to me - but I don't
hold that against the enumerator.

I've always claimed that genealogy is simply socially acceptable OCD.

Flatow - 1783 census of Schuetzjueden, or Protected Jews #germany

I have a copy of the Flatow 1783 census of Schuetzjueden, or Protected Jews.
It lists the head of household, wife and children and the children's ages.
Since it dates before 1812, there are no surnames. And it only pertains to
Flatow, nowhere else.

If you would like a copy, please contact me.
