Dear Genners,
Here is the second of two viewmate posts that ask the same question.
What town does this Solomon FRUTKOW family come from? This is >from the
Hamburg list. The other is the same family listed on the ship's
manifest.

You can find it at
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM23961
The six Frutkows are close to the top of the page.

Thank you in advance,

Identification of town on manifest for FRUTKOW family on Viewmate #general

Toby Bird

Dear Genners,
I have posted a manifest >from an 1892 immigration of the Solomon
FRUTKOW family (lines 309-314) to the US. I'd like to know if you can
identify the town they came from. I am trying to connect his family
to mine; specifically to see if he is the same as a Sholom Frudko who
is a family member. The problem is that my family is >from Lithuania
and I don't think he is.
I am lucky in that this family is also appears on the Hamburg list
which you will see on a separate post so that you can compare the two
entries.

Also, if anyone would like to try to decipher the names and genders of
the last two children, I'd appreciate it.

ViewMate Yiddish translation #general

stacy reines <ycats2@...>

I have posted a photo >from 1930 that I believe was taken in Russia.
There is Yiddish writing to the left of the photo and symbols that
seem to indicate which people in the photo are being named. If
anyone could translate the Yiddish for me, I would be very grateful.
The location of the photo is: 23965 in View Mate. Since I had to
convert my e-mail to plain text to send this e-mail, my e-mail
client won't let me include a link.
Thank you so much!

Rabbinical records from Lithuania and Russia #general

Linda Harper <linda.jharper62@...>

Does anyone know if there are any databases or data sources where I can find
rabbinical records >from the late 1800's. I know this is kind of vague, I am in
the process of getting more specific locations to use in the search, but I don't
have them quite yet.

Thank you,
Linda Harper

Tourburg, Russia. #general

Howard Coupland <how.jacque@...>

The 1891 Census, it states that my ggf was born in Tourburg, Russia. I have
scratched my head in vain about Tourburg, and it is quite unclear what place
can be meant here. I came across the name 'Yurburg' and thought that
'Tourburg' might be a clerical error for Yurburg. Yurburg (German:
Georgenburg) is quite close to Vilkovisk (where his wife was born) so it
would make sense if he had come >from there. Can someone shed any light on
this?

Best Wishes

Howard Coupland

Jewish Records Website for Galician Records #general

Phyllis Kramer

A fellow genealogist advised me of this site, located at
http://dcjr.org. There are about 5000 records >from all over Eastern
Galicia. The site explains:

The Digitized Collection of Jewish Records is a searchable database of
about 5000 digital copies of Jewish vital, communal, organizational,
legal, immigration, school, and other categories of records of
genealogical, historical and memorial value, most of them handwritten.
They stem >from the area of the former Austrian province of Eastern
Galicia (subsequently Poland), including Lvov, Stanislawow, and
Tarnopol provinces, spanning years >from the mid -19th century to the
late 30th of the 20th century. Presently they are stored in several
private collections.

Records donated to our database were inventoried, catalogued, arranged
in several categories, digitized, translated into English, and entered
in the web site. The DCJR database is actually the inventory of the
English language translations of these records, assorted in
alphabetical order and searchable by surnames. Our web site is
designed to make the researching of the documents listed in the
database easy.

Our web site provides a free on - line access to the English language
translations to these records. We hope our database will assist many
of our visitors in researching their Jewish ancestry or lost family
members.

Happy Hunting!
