There aren't any first names, only initials, and there are street addresses with
numbers.

A few of the names are:

ZEITLIN, TSYPENYUK, CHOKOLOV, SHEYNBAUM, SHTOFER, EYBER, YUZDON, YUDOVICH, YAHLES,
et al.

A few of the names of streets & people are literal translations and I don't know
the Russian equivalent. Please let me/us know if you do:

19th century maiming to avoid conscription into Russian army #general

jb@...

Dear Jewish Gen members,

I'm an author and working on a book idea centred around the idea of a "wounder" - a
Russian Jew in mid-1800s whose job it is to maim children to avoid their
conscription into the Czar's army.

If you have any genealogical information/family history related to this activity (a
maimed relative, or one who maimed) and would be will to share it (in whatever
form), I'd be immensely appreciative.

Best,

Hi Bessarabers,

There are two towns with the name Briceni in Republic of Moldova right now.

A large one which used to be in Khotin uezd, and now in Moldova an
administrative center of Briceni rayon. The small one which is now in
Dondushany rayon, and before it was probably part of Soroki uezd.

Go on Google Map and put
Briceni, Moldova for the large one and
Briceni, Donduseni, Moldova for the small one.

There are 86 km between these towns.

All the best,

Muneles erred in using the Hebrew Khotno (father-in-law) rather than Khatno
(son-in-law) for Aharon Moshe Teomin who was married to Yisrael Horowitz's
daughter Rivka.

I have reviewed many sources to identify Ursula/Nisel.

While she appears in reliable sources, none identify her father as Moshe Halevy
Ashkenazy Stern. The many managers of this profile on Geni have not provided a
source other than each other.

I am of the opinion that there was not connection between Rabbi Yisrael Horowitz's
wife Ursula/Nisel and the illustrious ancestry erroneously ascribed to her by many
people on Geni. Even many of the links betwen these supposed ancestors are
incorrect.

As stated by other, Geni users beware.
