I have posted two letters. The first is three pages,
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM25998,
VM25999 & VM26000. This letter is >from Rabbi Diskin to Ruth. The
second letter consists of two pages,
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM25996 &
VM25997 and is a letter >from Ruth to Rabbi Diskin.

Ruth is Ruth Krichefsky Chudnofsky, married to Morris Chudnofsky.
Morris is the brother of Ester Chudnofsky Weissberg (husband is Adolph
Weissberg) and brother of Berta/Bathsheba Chudnofsky Belack, whose
husband is Isaac Belack. I've inserted these names in the event that
they are mentioned in the letters.

Thank you, whoever is kind enough to do the translation.

A certain number of articles are free each month. After that, you need
to pay.

I don't know about library access; call your local library system.

Ukraine SIG: Which LDS Family History Centers have microfilm scanners? #ukraine

Ronald D. Doctor <rondoctor@...>

Dear Ukraine SIG Researchers,

Do you know that the Mormon Family History Library (FHL) has microfilms
with Jewish vital records for more than 100 towns in Ukraine?

Do you know that the FHL has microfilms with Revision Lists (Censuses)
and Jewish Family Lists for more than 160 towns in Ukraine?

Do you know that some LDS Family History Centers (FHCs) have microfilm
scanners that enable you to create digital copies of vital records,
family lists, and revision lists for your research?

Some of you may have used the microfilm scanners at the FHL in Salt Lake
City or at an FHC near your home to obtain images of records you need.
These scanners allow you to capture images to a flash drive or to a
portable hard disk. You then can get your record images translated at
your leisure. Some of these microfilm scanners are even automated to
allow you to capture many records for your family more quickly and more
easily.

Many of Ukraine SIG's researchers do not know that that they can acquire
records of their ancestors in this way. Many of our researchers do not
know whether or not a FamilySearch Center near them has a microfilm
scanner. Not even the LDS has an inventory that identifies which
FamilySearch Centers have microfilm scanners.

To assist all of our researchers, Ukraine SIG is launching a new
project. Harvey Kabaker (harvey.kabaker@...) has agreed to be
Project Manager for the first phase of our new Records Digitizing and
Translation Project. This first phase involves identifying which Family
Search Centers have microfilm scanners and the types of scanners they
have. WE NEED YOUR HELP TO CREATE THIS LIST. All you have to do is visit
your local FamilySearch Center and fill out a simple form that Harvey
will provide to you.

If you live near an LDS FamilySearch Center any place in the world, and
you are willing to help, please contact Harvey or me. We will send you a
simple form to fill out. We'll then compile the results to create an
inventory that will be useful to all of your fellow researchers. Once
this is done, we will launch the second phase of the project, a
cooperative effort to acquire digital images of your ancestors' records.

This is a project that can not be done without your help. Please contact
us and spend an hour or two to help us compile this scanner inventory.

And, please don't forget to fill our our Survey Form. It is at:

http://www.jewishgen.org/ukraine/ABT_Survey_Lang_Form.asp

It is important and will take less than 5 minutes to complete.

I am looking forward to hearing >from you,

Ron

1930 Census Detail Request #general

Debby Gincig Painter

I came across an interesting entry in the 1930 census index.
Unfortunately, I have access only to the index but not the image
itself. Is there someone that can give me the actual location
this girl was residing in at that time. Her name is Pearl Sobel
and she is 14 years old and listed as an inmate. Inmate of what
at that age? In 1935 she is then living with her brother.

Index information:
1930 Census District 0103, Sheet 1A, family 1 San Francisco California
Head of Household: Foster mother Teresa Ames

Thank you in advance,
Debby Painter

Stanley STERN, New York #general

Carol Jaffe

Genners,

I am trying to locate any descendants of Stanley STERN who was born
about 1912 in New York. He was the son of Nathan & Carrie LOWENTHAL
STERN. His maternal grandparents were Simon & Rosalia ISAAC
LOWENTHAL, his paternal grandparents were Levi & Fannie HESS STERN.
Stanley had a sister Florence S STERN who was married to Milton M
Meyer. I do know Stanley was married, spouse unknown and he had at
least one child a son.

Please contact me off list at cmjaffe11@... if you know of this
family or know of someone who might be researching this family. I
have photos that I feel belong to the STERN family and would like them
to have them.

Thank you,

HEYMANSON-WALLACH family #general

ronald Wallace

I am searching for relatives of a Heymanson family. Descendants of Eduard
HEYMANSON and Recha (Rea) WALLACH. They both came >from Germany and were
actually cousins. They married in New York in 1903 and had two children,
Jeanette born in in NYC in 1907 and William in NYC in 1918.

I can find no trace of any of them after the 1925 New York State Census.

They have/had relatives that settled in the Chicago area, with current
generations still living there. I am fairly certain that I know who the
current generation are and would like to make contact if I can.

If anyone on Jewishgen or Gersig newsgroups has any knowledge of this
family, I would be most grateful to hear >from them to my personal e-mail.

Thanks
