Dominique,

My observation is that your ancestors each had
- a Hebrew name used for religious occasions such as synagogue services, and
- a civil name used in everyday life.
Both could have been recorded, but not necessarily so.

Including a suicide in a family history #general

Davida Handler <davida.handler@...>

When writing a family history, is it necessary, or even permissible,
to publish the suicide of an ancestor, no matter how many generations
back that this occurred, and no living descendants who ever even knew
the person? Is the "right to know" applicable to all family members,
or is it best to simply mention the date of death, with no inclusion
of this information? Is the risk of hurting descendants, even if at
least 4 generations removed more important than the facts?

BARENBAUM family in Argentina #general

Jenny Schwartzberg

Dear Genners,

My cousin Frada Boxer is currently visiting Argentina and she was hoping
to find the family of her grandfather's brothers.

We know that her great-grandfather, Itzhak Shimon Barenbaum, was a Torah
scribe. His son Jacob Mordecai Barenbaum (1866-1949) was born inPovitye
near Divin, Kobrin uyezd, Grodno gubernia, Russia now Belarus. He settled in
Chicago but the family remembers that his brothers went to Argentina.
No one remembers their names or their children's names.

We are hoping that some Argentine genners may recognize this family.
Please contact me at schwartzbergj@newberry.org and I will pass the emails
on to my cousin.

Yours,
Jenny Schwartzberg

Sarbalyk
Sarapulka
Sarybalyk
Tsyerablichy
Tserevoloki
Zhuravlikha

Ellis island <http://ellisisland.org/>; does not list any arrival on that

GLICK family from South Africa (originally Russia) #general

Daniel Gleek

Please will you check your trees to see if you have a GLICK family listed?

I am looking for Benjamin GLICK (b 1860 Russia d 1942 Cape Town) who may be
a relative. I found a photo of his stone in a cemetery called "Maitland Gate 8".
It can be seen at:
https://www.jewishcemetery.co.za/deceaseds/view/18165

In 1942 he had a wife and children (no grandchildren are mentioned on the
stone). One of the children could have been called Harry (Tzvi).

I would also like to post this appeal on the South African equivalent
genealogy site.

If you know the email address to which I should send this appeal, could you
advise me?

Please send any replies to me directly. My email address is:

Thank you,

Thank you
Beth Glaser

MODERATOR NOTE 1:

I visited Nevetlenfalu in 2012 and will visit Egris (believed to be Oleshnyk
today) in 2013.

As far as B/M/D records are concerned >from any city, town or village in the
Transcarpathian Archive, I am currently working on this issue. More to follow
in a separate e-mail at a later date.

MODERATOR NOTE 2:

For the benefit of those of you new to this list or not familiar with the
places I have visited, there are two trip reports (2011 and 2012) which
document my travels. I will be writing a 2013 trip report. The 2011 and
2012 trip reports are found at the JewishGen Sub-Carpathia SIG "Portal"

I would like to make contact with Samuel & Patricia CONNE (formerly COHEN)
and/or Samuel or Reva CHAIT. I think that they live in Cape Town or its

ZACKLIN (ZACK) AND MOSTEL families of Leeds #unitedkingdom

A S Goldberg

I am trying to trace a ZACKLIN family (who later shortened their name to
ZACK) who were living in Leeds during the first half of the 20th century.

The ZACKLIN father was a Leeds milkman and he had 2 children. Joe ZACK(LIN)
was in the tailoring trade. He died aged 82 in 1976 and is buried in Leeds.
His sister Ray was quite a well-known screen and stage actress and married
an actor Tommy MOSTEL. After his death, she married a businessman from
Sheffield. Ray had a daughter who married a HOLM >from Leeds.

I would greatly appreciate hearing >from anyone who might know this family or
have information relating to its members and, hopefully, current
descendants. Please respond to me direct to alancomm@netmedia.net.il.

Many thanks,
