What numbers are significant? #dna

Harvey Kabaker

I'd like to hear >from people who got results in Family Finder at FTDNA
or DNA Relativbes at 23andMe showing a match with a known first, second
or third cousin, or with a previously unknown relative who turned out to
be a proven relative. I suppose aunts and uncles and great aunts and
uncles are possible.

At FTDNA, what were the numbers for shared CM and longest block? At
23andMe, what was the percentage of shared DNA and number of segments?

At FTDNA I have several predicted 2nd cousins who have no known surnames
in common with me. At 23andMe there's a predicted 2nd cousin with 3.16%
and 15 segments matching who refuses to correspond. How do these figures
copare with your matching successes?

Thanks.

Chaim Spira from Ulanow to pre-state Israel #general

Linda Berkowitz <lindaberkowitz@...>

I am researching the SPIRA family >from Ulanow and recently found
information on Chaim Spira.

I found a record of his illegal immigration to Palestine on 1
November 1940. The record indicates that he was approximately 51
when he immigrated and that he used Elias Wolfmann >from Rishon
LeZion as his reference.

Any information on him, his family in Israel, or the family in
Poland would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Fw: Antwerp Area Vital Records 1930's #france

Subject: Antwerp Area Vital Records 1930's

Greetings,
A great aunt was a stateless person residing in Antwerp before WW II with
her immediate family. She perished in the Shoah along with three children
who had British citizenship.
Two daughters, born in Antwerp in 1911 and 1913 survived. One emigrated to
Palestine , probably with her father, before 1926 and the other survived in
Belgium along with her husband, two children and the Belgian born children
of one of her murdered brothers.
I am aware of the 1940 Census of Jews in Antwerp and have a full copy of the
Antwerp Police file for the family. Were Jews of Belgian birth or
citizenship treated differently than aliens wrt deportation ? Are there
information sources or contacts within the general Antwerp area Jewish
community that might provide me with Vital records or other information not
available or readily accessible through official channels; primarily for
the 1930 years.
I am entering the final stages of a long and largely successful search for a
missing granduncle and his family; the information I seek is important to a
fully successful completion.

What happened to the Toporow records? #general

Judith Elam

I would love to be able to do more research on my WIENER, MARDENFELD and
SEGAL lines >from Toporow, Galicia, now Toporiv, Ukraine. I have been told
that there are no surviving records for Toporow - anywhere. I find this
strange. I believe there are some places in Galicia that even have records
in more than one archive. So does anyone know what happened to the Toporow
records and why there are apparently none in any archive?

Chief Rabbi Yona METZGER #rabbinic

martin hecht <martinjhecht@...>

would someone know anything of the genealogy of Ashkenazic Israeli
Chief Rabbi Yona METZGER?
Specifically, my wife is a Metzger who traces her roots back to Rav
Yaakov Dovid Stiel, who was a rabbinical judge(dayan) in Vishniza,
Poland, and later in Krakow,on the beis din of Rav Arye Leib Lifshitz,
the famed author of "Arye debei Ila'a."
Rav Yaakov Dovid Stiel traces his lineage to the Teomim family and
Rav Yonah Teomim, the "Kikayon D'Yona," whose lineage is documented
back to R' Saul Wahl etc.
A number of members of the family bear the name "Yona."

I wonder whether Rav Yonah Metzger is a member of this family. Is he a
descendant of the Kikayon D'Yona? Is he related to this Metzger branch?

Any help would be appreciated.
