Origin of name COLCHAMIRO #sephardic

rickglaser@...

I am trying to find the origin of the COLCHAMIRO, which appears among
Romaniote Greek Jews >from Janina.

Some believe that the original name of the family may have been
Matisyahu.

One thought is that the name derives >from Kol Chomer (all material),
regarding someone who was in the textile trade.

Thanks in advance

One of the exciting advances for this summer's IAJGS Conference will
be an on-line Conference Family Finder. The Family Finder will provide
a wide range of search options as well as offering the ability to
browse, page-by-page. It will protect privacy of those who
submit their input. Additionally, it will be available well before the
conference so that registrants can make contact and arrange to get
together at the conference. For more information, please click
on the following link: http://conference.iajgs.org/2014/faq.cfm/#Conf0.

Abetan/Avitan and Rozilio/Rosilio from Morocco #sephardic

Avraham Y. Kahana

Hi all,
I am beginning research for maroccan jewry, specifically for the
Abetan/Avitan and Rozilio/Rosilio families.
I took a quick look at some JG sources, and will studying and digging
into the data.
Regarding the book "La saga des familles: les juifs du Maroc et leurs
noms", by Joseph Toledano - where one can find a copy? A quick google
search did not give me any results of where to buy one (neither from
used books sites).

Thanks,
Avraham Yehoshua Kahana

Obsession: Jealousy, Murder, Death: Sing Sing prison #general

M R <emeraldeyesm@...>

Just made a shocking discovery this weekend thanks to a lot of help
from Genners: A cousin's gr.father didn't die in the influenza epidemic
around 1919, as believed; neither his father's nor his grandfather's
first & last names were what they thought they were. It is a story for
the movies!! Obsession, Jealousy,Murder, Death---His grandfather was
electrocuted in Sing Sing prison after killing his lover, shooting his
estranged wife, and shooting himself in 1917.

1. Does anyone know what steps I would take to view the "admissions
blotter" (Sing Sing's one page admission papers)?
I have the trial # (2370), Court of General Sessions
Judge: Thomas C.T. Crain
Defense Attorneys: Vincent Gilroy & Frederick A. Ware.
Prosecuting Attorney: John M. Minton Jr.
Defendant: Hyman Ostransky. (Date of murder: July, 25,1917, electrocuted
June 13, 1918)
Reels-300, Pages: 319
The trial evidently was in New York.

2. Also, is there a way to read the court records online or must
they be requested? If so, where/how?

3. And, how would I find out where this man was buried?

Thanks, as always, for your help
