More than 800 different town names in the Concordance are drawn >from the
indexed entries. We have standardized the town name list so that all
town names now conform to the standard used by Ukraine SIG (pre-WW1 town
name), as defined by JewishGen's Gazetteer. Here are the 14 towns that

KLEIN >from Sarkad, Bihar. The database also includes 1828 property tax =
records >from Sarkad but no KLEIN is listed. Vital records for Sarkad, Bihar, will
probably be in the Romanian State Archives in Oradea.

from his posts on here as well as >from the Rhodes Jewish DNA project.

I have been trying for months to reach him to no avail. Does anyone
have an updated contact for him or know what might be going on with

Hi all.

My grateful thanks to Nicki Russler, who translated the first of the 4 vital
records I sent yesterday, and pointed out that they are in Russian, not
Polish, as Russia was insisting on the Russianisation of Polish records at
the time.

Here are the last 3 again, which will also be in Russian.

Greetings to all >from Israel. I am visiting my family and wish you all coming to Israel next July to travel
this great country and participate in our Genealogical conference.
I never lived in Israel more than 2 weeks on vacations, but always felt very good coming to Israel.

Want to share with you my today's experience... I visited my father's grave at Efeq cemetery, Kiriat
Byalik, north of Haifa. Writings are on many different languages: Hebrew, Russian, Romanian, English,
Polish, Georgian, and some others I could recognize. Also on many graves there is a place of origin,
maybe same is on other Israel's cemeteries. I only was in a small section, and saw Jews >from Brichani,
Kishinev, also Dorohoi, Radauti, Jassy, Bucharest... the cemetery probably has about 20,000 graves
or more. That cemetery is not yet indexed at JOWBR, but I am pretty sure that the index exists
somewhere in the office.

In the early 1900s in the USA most babies were born at home and did not have
a birth certificate. In lieu of no birth certificate which secondary
document would be best accepted for a birth date? Immigration records might
be acceptable for those born in Europe but not American born children.
Death records show birth year that their children know - not always accurate.
Marriage certificates say what the couple think is correct. U.S. Census birth
years often change every 10 years. Would military records be more accurate?
Or did people change those years also to fit their personal needs?
