Rozniatow (Galicia) Cadastral Map 1851 now online! #galicia

Marlene Bishow

Hi all:

I was ecstatic to see that at long last the cadastral map for my
paternal family's ancestral home of Rozniatow was posted to the GG
Map Room. I spent many hours today scouring the map for any
indication of the DEUTSCHER (DEITSCHER) or NUSBAUM family name
and found none.

I realize that this map was >from 1851 and also that all landowner
names are not indicated, however I have good reason to believe that
my DEUTSCHER family was in Rozniatow by this time. My 2nd ggf,
Sheah Mendel DEUTSCHER, was in the lumber business and by the
late 19th century, he was a wealthy man. His son, my ggf, Chaim
DEUTSCHER was not born until about 1863. Chaim had a large
roadhouse on the Alter Dorf, not far >from the rail station. On the
property there were out buildings, some of which were still standing
in 2005 when Rozniatow was visited by family members. The family
also had a butter and egg business. They candled eggs for the local
farmers and made butter in their creamery. Some of Chaim's sons
continued their butter and egg business when they arrived in New
York City in the early 20th century.

I do not know much about the NUSBAUMs. My ggf was Mordecai
NUSBAUM. He was married to Sosia. Their daughter, my ggm was
Feiga. She married Chaim DEUTSCHER in about 1881. Other children
included L. NUSBAUM (male), Samuel, and Taieva (female).

Hoping that someone spots something on this new (old) map that
may help me learn more about my Galician ancestors.

Happy Chanukah,

Marlene Bishow

Does anyone know of any resources in Toulouse, France?
My great uncle worked on the Caravelle aircraft for Airbus in Toulouse,
probably in the 1950's, 1960's,
He died in 1988 in Toulouse, and has a plaque attached to his gravestone
that reads, " L'amicale des retraites de l'aerospatiale"

His wife was Freida HANNMANN KISSILEWSKY, and they had no children
They lived at 1 Boulevard Michelet 31000 Toulouse France

My great uncle was originally >from Nova Pryluki, south of Berdichev area
, Ukraine, born 1895
I have a photograph of him in 1912 that says Kinereth Palestine
and also photographs 1923, 1925 in university in Berlin, Germany

thank you all for any suggestions for further research

Dear French-SIGgers,

I've heard a family story about Gersh (Hirsch?) SHAPSIS (SHEPSIS; SHABSIS)
who immigrated >from Odessa to Belgium after WW1 and was involved in
Communist activity. The story goes on and says that he died (murdered?)
because of his apparent activity.

I can't find a burial record on JOWBR nor in any online source I've
explored.

I will be happy to hear about ideas as of where can I get any information
about Girsh SHEPSIS.

Thank you!

Information sought on KUPICHEV, UKRAINE #ukraine

Is there anyone out there with roots or connections or contacts
regarding the Ukrainian shtetl, KUPICHEV? (Kupychiv)
I have traced the following families - BARENHOLTZ, WEINSTEIN,
PENZIK and AMARNIK with direct links to the shtetl and I am planning
to visit there in the Spring of 2015.
Beit Wolyn, situated in Givatayim, (neighboring Tel Aviv) is a museum
with extensive information on the Wolyn (Volhynia) area of Ukraine where
KUPICHEV is located, yet has no record whatever of this shtetl, 15 miles
south of Kowel (Kovel) which had a Jewish community in 1900 of less

Finding Ships' Manifests #general

Jerry Small

I want to inform all those who have provided great input to my request, that
further investigation has revealed that the information recorded on the
passport application regarding the SS Victoria >from Hamburg has proven to be
incorrect. With the help of a very knowledgeable researcher, we have found
that my grandfather actually departed on SS Coblenz, then transferred to the
SS Pomeranian which landed in NY 10 June 1891.

Unfortunately, as many have said, the information found on many documents years
after the actual events may have been lost to memory or confused with other
facts. Anyway, I want to thank all who have participated in the adventure.

Volunteer to transcribe Nesvizh Revision List from Cyrillic? #general

Steve Stein <steinsteve@...>

We now have digitized images of the 1816 Revision List (more than 100 pages)
for Nesvizh, Belarus. Since 1834, 1850 and 1873 are already online, this
would give us a complete set for the 19th century.

If you can read handwritten Cyrillic and are familiar with Revision Lists,
we could use your help. Please contact me and I will send you pages to
transcribe. I can supply the 1834 results as a "cheat sheet" if you would
like to compare your results to the later ones. Thanks in advance!
