Polish Birth Entry Translation - ViewMate #general

Debbie Raff

It would be appreciated if those who can translate Polish would stop by
Viewmate and check VM38347.
It is a portion of an 1878 birth entry for Nowy Sacz, Poland. I know the
main facts, but listed a couple of questions I can't answer.
For example there is an addition with the year 1879 in the Comments (last
column) I wondered what it regarded...perhaps, a death??

Thanks to all,

Dear JewishGenners
I am searching for descendants of the author of chapters in the
Losice Poland Yizkor book. It was published in Tel Aviv over 50 years
ago in 1963. The book's table of contents states that Lielb HOFER
(the author of these chapters) lived in the city of Holon (Israel) at the time.
I am looking for any information on Liebl HOFER's descendants in Israel
or the US, as he may be related to my wife's family.

Thank you.

FW: [rom-sig] Bob Wascou #bessarabia

Yefim Kogan

Dear Bessarabers,

With great sadness I want to let you know that Bob Wascou, a person who did a lot for all Bessarabian
researches departed.

Bob Wascow coordinated one of the most important projects for our region - Bessarabia Vital Records.
His team gave us an opportunity to find Birth, Marriage and Death records for our ancestors. I started
working for Bob more than 10 years ago, when the project was part of Romania SIG. In a short while
he gave me translate records >from my parent's town - Kaushany, where I found a birth record for my
great grandfather, and records for many other relatives. That project was an eye opener for me, and
for many other researchers.

Later, in 2009 in Philadelphia I met Bob in person. He helped me starting another project - Bessarabia
Revision List. In 2013 conference in Boston Bob Wascou participated in our Bessarabia SIG meeting,
where he presented Vital Records Project and that he needs more translators to finish that project and
work on other projects...

Our Bessarabia SIG will complete hard work at Bessarabia Vital Records project started by Bob Wascou,
our friend and teacher.

Our deep condolences to Bob's family.

Dear fellow Rom-SIGgers,

It is with heavy heart that I must tell you that our wonderful Research Coordinator, Bob Wascou, has
passed away. He was truly the very soul of the Rom-SIG for so many years. His superb managerial
skills, kindness, gentleness, thoughtfulness and devotion to the SIG were beyond
compare. Those of us who have had the privilege of working with, and
knowing him, for so many years are deeply saddened, but determined to
keep the SIG running in a way that will honor Bob's memory. It will
take a little while till we pull matters together, but we hope that
you will all bear with us. We hope to set up a special fund for the
Rom-SIG with an eye to doing just that by allowing us to continue our research efforts.
We will let everyone know when that has been arranged with JewishGen.

There is a very beautiful tribute to Bob, placed on his Facebook site, by his son.

May his memory be a blessing for us all!

Thank you, Sherri and Rodney, for the info about Jewish archives in Nancy.
The best we know is that my GGGF was born in Nancy about 1828 and came to
the US about 1850. The names in the cemetery list appear to connect to other
info I've found, so, at worst, you've given me another place to "chase"
GGGF.
