Translation request - Poland - Marriage registry, Andrychow #general

Rick Luftglass <rluftglass@...>

Hi folks. I've posted the marriage registration for my great-grandparents:
- Samuel LUFTGLASS (then spelled LUFTGLAS) and Rosa MOSES.

It's in Polish, and I need a full translation.

I'm particularly interested in locations and notes that may help me find out more
about Samuel's parents, Moses and Hani Luftglass, my great great grandparents.
They were married in Andrychow, Galicia, in what is now Poland, near Krakow, though
there are a couple of other towns indicated on the certificate, and I can't figure
out where they are.

It is on ViewMate at the following address:

http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM38521

Please respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application.

Thank you in advance.

Labor camp from Hildesheim #general

LISBETH

Hi everyone

There is a mystery I would like to clarify. If anyone can help me I would be
very grateful to him (her).

My uncle Richard Sonnenfeld is indicated as dead during the Holocaust. He is on the
same list of people deported >from Vienna (with his parents, sisters and brother).

The problem is that he never arrived to Lodz with them !

During a trip to Vienna, a few years ago, the person I met at Dow told
me he was probably killed during transport. Impossibility to learn where and how.

The problem is that I found a photo he sent to my mother, probably in late 1930,
early 1940. If anyone can translate for me what he wrote, thank you in advance!

http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM38736

http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM38737

I just noticed on this photo the name of a town : Hildesheim.

After an internet search, I read that there was indeed a concentration
camp there ... but in 1945?

So, my question is: how Richard could be at the end of 1930, early 1940 in a
forced labor camp and also be on the same list people deported >from Vienna,
October 19, 1941 ?

Does it possible he was released >from the labor camp a short time ?

On this other photo he wrote nothing. Does it possible it is also Hildesheim ?

Please for the photos, respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application.

Many thanks for any help.

1850 Revision List for Vilnius #rabbinic

Peggy Freedman <peggyf@...>

Sometimes it seems that looking for records of our ancestors in Vilnius
is like looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack. But the Vilnius
DRG is still looking!

We have begun work on the 1850 Revision List for Vilnius. LitvakSIG has
obtained scans of over 100 pages of the Revision List, and we have a
volunteer working to translate the records. If you are able to read old
cyrillic handwriting and would like to help with this project, please
review the JewishGen guidelines for translations and work on the three
pages that are posted at:
https://vilnius.shutterfly.com/1850vilniusrlscans

To give you an idea of the scope of this project, we estimate that the
entire Revision List contains over 800 pages including 20,000 lines of
data. The original list was collected over two years (1850-1851). We
have scanned the pages >from the first date in 1850 and that list is over
100 pages long.

We would be thrilled to translate the list using volunteers, but we only
know a few people who can read the old cyrillic. If you or someone you
know is interested, please let me know.

If you do not read old Cyrillic but would like to help us complete the
project, consider making a donation to the Vilnius District Research
Group of LitvakSIG. All donations of over US$100 qualify the donor to
receive the translated data as soon as we get it >from the translators.
This data will be freely searchable and available in the JewishGen
Lithuania Database at the same time it is made available in the
LitvakSIG All Lithuania Database -- approximately 18 months >from
LitvakSIG's receipt of the translations.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best Regards,

Peggy Mosinger Freedman

Dear Loren

I checked the Moderator link but all it says is there is a Jewish
cemetery on Raina St.

I have a map which marks out Jewish places of interest in Latvia.
It says of Smiltene. The Jewish Cemetery was founded in 1920 and
used prior to the beginning of WW2. Now the Cemetery is neglected.
Location of the cemetery is 41km >from Valmiera,46km >from Valka

Seeking GARDNER family in London, UK #general

Werner Hirsch

I am trying to locate one or both of a peir of brothers >from London, UK. They are
my second cousins:
Michael Lawrence GARDNER, b. Dec. 1956, London, England, and
Simon J. GARDNER, b. June 1959, London, England

Their parents were:
John Alan GARDNER, b. 19 Jan 1921, Karlsruhe, Germany, d. 4 Aug 1976, London,
England (Before emigrating to England his name was Hans August GARTNER (a umlaut);
he was commonly known as Jack) and Gabi HEILBRON or LOWENTHAL, b. 24 Apr. 1930, d.
Feb. 1992, London, England [In 1946 she was listed in the London Gazette as Gabi
HEILBRON formerly Gaby LOWENTHA, but I have no idea what that means]

The family moved to England in the late 1930s, Jack's parents, Max and Irma
GARDNER, are buried in the Bushey Cemetery in Hertfordshire, but I have no idea
where Jack and Gabi are buried.

During WWII Jack served with the RAF. In the early 1960s I visited Jack and Gabi,
who then lived at 72/74 Ridgeway, Golders Green, London.

I would greatly appreciate any help that someone could give me to locate the
brothers Michael and Simon GARDNER.

Karl Schneider, deported >from Euskirchen to the Riga Ghetto, was the only
survivor of his family. His wife, Frieda, née Heumann, and his two boys,
Erwin and Harry, were murdered in Riga. After Karl's death in 1961 his
second wife Gerda, née Kallmann, found his memoir,"Religiöses Leben im

housing/billeting records German occupation Riga #latvia

J G

Greetings to All

I am wondering if anyone has found an archive, or has an idea of
an archive, containing the lists showing where the higher officers
of the German occupation lived during the years 1941-1943. Or, if
in your research travels you've met someone who might know of such
an archive.

In February 1943 I know >from the Riga land records, the "Police
Commander Ost-Lands" was given control over the property located at
52 Meza Prospeckt in the Mezaparks area of Riga. This particular
"Commander" would have been responsible for all phases of the
murders of the Jewish population, and later the various camps and
the murder of Jews flowing into Riga >from other parts of Europe.

52 Meza Prospeckt was built by my Great Grandfather's brother in
1929. In June 1941, he and his wife were deported to Siberia by the
Soviets who occupied Latvia vis a vis the Stalin Hitler Pact of 1939.
By July of 1941, the pact ended, the Germans invaded Latvia and
occupied Riga. By December of 1941, all of the family, children and
grandchildren of the brother had been murdered except for a girl
grandchild who was left in the care of the housekeeper. That
housekeeper became the cook for the Police Commander who occupied
their house. One day the general asked the little girl what her
name was, and innocently, she told him. She was then killed.
Which ever of the three or four possible commanders for Ostland,
stationed in Riga during the time in question, occupied the family
house, would be the one responsible for the murder of this child.

Thanks in advance for any archival leads anyone may have to
suggest or offer.

Please do contact me directly, although general archive information
might be useful to other researchers looking for similar information
in the telling of their family stories.

How to present research questions #latvia

Arlene Beare

I have noted that many requests for help do not give any indication
as to what research has already been done. It is important to indicate
if you are a beginner and do not know where to start or if you are an
experienced researcher and have already looked at many databases such
as Jewishgen databases and Ancestry.com to name a few. You may even
have asked the Archives for research. For example the last posting
does not give enough information to point Lisa in the right direction.
A few dates such as dates of birth or when they left Latvia would help.
She mentions she has some information on siblings but does not give
that information or where she got it from. She mentions cousins who
went to Ireland but does not give any names or dates. The message
cannot be too detailed but certain facts are really necessary to enlist
help.
