Warner N. Gilbert of Harrow and mother Doris Zutermann Ginsberg b. 1870 - Can you help? #unitedkingdom

I am looking for information regarding the descendants of a man by the name
of Warner N. Gilbert who submitted a Page of Testimony at the Yad Vashem
web page for his Mother, Doris Zutermann Ginsberg, on which he gave his
address as 15 Warden Avenue, Harrow (Middx), England. It turns out that
Dore/Doris Zutermann is on my family tree as a niece of my Great Great
Grandmother.
I have been trying to make contact with someone (anyone) >from this family
for years and this is my first clue. I wonder if there is any way that you
can help me to contact Mr. Gilbert or one of his descendants?

(The Page of Testimony is dated 1977 and his Mother was born in 1870, so
I am guessing that Mr. Gilbert is most probably deceased. I am also
guessing that the family changed its name >from Ginsberg to Gilbert at one
time, and Warner may even have been Werner.)

Ebbw Vale Synagogue #unitedkingdom

Harold Pollins

I have been researching the history of the Ebbw Vale Hebrew Community,
South Wales. The synagogue was opened in December 1911, being the
refurbished building of a former Christian non-conformist chapel. The
congregation came to an end in the late 1920s, undoubtedly the result
of the loss of members who left the town because of the severe
economic depression. I have searched for the address of the synagogue
for some time. I have looked at the Jewish Year Book, the Jewish
Chronicle, local directories, Welsh newspapers, all without success.I
wonder if there is anyone who knows or knew Ebbw Vale and can supply
the address of the synagogue. I should be most grateful for any clues.

Given name "Auser" #germany

James H Harris <jimboxcar@...>

My grandfather Emil SELIG was born, we believe, in Joinville, France
about 1845, although the family was originally >from Germany. But the
sketchy records indicate that at birth his given name was "Auser"
but all records >from infancy on show "Emil" . Any info about this
given name would be appreciated. Was it a common Jewish ? German?
French? name? Is there any connection between the names Emil and Auser?

Also: We have the original record of his father=92s U.S. naturalization
in 1859, but not of his wife or French-born children. Could it be that,
at that time, they would thereby be automatically naturalized ? All
arrived on the same boat in 1853 and were living together in 1859.
Thanks for any info - and thanks to GerSig and all its posters - I've
learned lots!

The JewishGen Gazetteer knows of a village in Ukraine called Sudobichi.
It's between Dubno and Kremenets.

Beider's dictionary of Russian-Jewish surnames connects the name
SUDOBICH to this town.

originally came from.
There are some in Bialystock. Also I found quit a lot in Lithuania,

Karen Steinfeld

Dear fellow researchers,

You may be aware that UkraineSIG obtained Jewish vital records for
Moshny Ukraine, which is situated 16 miles west-northwest of Cherkasy
in the Kiev Province. These records include births, deaths, marriages,
and divorces covering the years 1845 - 1918. There are 809 pages of
scanned images (905 vital records) that need to be translated and
formatted.

You can read more about the project at

Avraham Groll promotion #yiddish

bounce-3003046-772983@...

Dear Friends,

I'm very pleased to announce the promotion of Avraham Groll to the
position of Senior Director of Business Operations for JewishGen.

Avraham has been with the organization since 2008. Since that time,
he has worked tirelessly and expertly to help JewishGen regain a
stable financial footing, consistently surpassing self-imposed goals,
and implementing a development and communications strategy that has
helped JewishGen operate "within the black" for the past 6 years.
His skills and character make me confident that his leadership will
help ensure a robust and dynamic future for JewishGen.

In assuming his new duties as Senior Director of Business Operations,
Avraham will direct all non-technical aspects of the daily operations,
and be the point person for SIG leaders and volunteers. In this new
role, Avraham will take the lead in approving new project initiatives
and fundraising proposals; engaging other organizations in potential
partnership agreements; and working to strengthen our organizations
ability to continue its role in helping people research their Jewish
family history and heritage.

Avraham holds a BS in Business Administration >from Ramapo College of
New Jersey, an MBA >from Montclair State University, and is currently
in the final phases of completing an MS in Judaic Studies at Touro
College. His background and experience make him ideally suited for
this new position, and I know you all will be supportive of Avraham
as he assumes his new role, which will have another benefit as well,
for it will allow me to focus on high-level technical needs.
Avraham's promotion will allow me to begin working on a number of
projects that have been delayed, which I now hope to have completed
by the next conference. More details of this will be announced
throughout the year.

Please join me in congratulating Avraham on this well-deserved
promotion.

Subject: Ernst/Eliazar SCHWARZ, Lacaune, the Jewish Maquis, Neve Ilan.

Dear Digest Members

Ernst was assigned resident in Lacaune >from March 1942 until
he fled sometime between the August 26 rafle there and
November 1943 when Mayor Henri VIGUIER reported to the local
Prefect that he had fled.

His parents Sala and Mathias SCHWARZ had been taken in the rafle
but apparently Ernst aged 14, was taken off the lorry by the Mayor.
His sister Charlotte PIETROKOWSKI,who survived the war in Lacaune
reported later that her brother had been hidden with other young people
whose parents had been deported. He was taken by a group of jewish
resistants who hid him.

We are looking for information about where Ernst went.

Was it the EIF who hid him? If not who?

If so was it with a family or did he go to Chateau des Ormes
or one of the other Chantiers Rurales?

And did he eventually join the Jewish Maquis? We know he survived
the war as Charlotte again reported that he went on the Aliyah of
young people >from Toulouse.

Ernst went to Israel where he joined Kibbutz Neve Ilan. He changed
his name to Eliazar. Tragically he was killed by Arabs when escorting
young people to work outside the kibbutz in the fields.

Is there any information about how he might have come to Neve Ilan?
Who set up Neve Ilan? Are there any founder members surviving who may
have known Ernst, by then called Eliazar?

Thank you
Shay Habel
