JewishGen offers New Class: Jewish Genealogy in East Prussia and the Baltic States #austria-czech

Nancy Holden

JewishGen offers New Class: Jewish Genealogy in East Prussia and the
Baltic States August 3 - August 26.

For the first time, JewishGen is offering a research class with focus
on Jewish Genealogical research in East Prussia and the Baltic States.

This course will focus on the modern countries of Lithuania (Kaunas),
Latvia, Estonia and the western part of East Prussia that borders the
Baltic Sea.

This region was once inhabited by the Baltic Prussians and Jews where
German language and culture dominated. Regional wars, famine, trade and
treaties influenced Jews who were permitted to live there. The ports and
the rivers that ran into the Baltic determined Jewish life.

If your ancestral roots were in East Prussia, Northern Poland, Western
Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia this class may help you break stumbling
blocks in your research. We will work at records still in existence for
these areas. Where records are sparse we will concentrate on finding
alternate sources.

JewishGen education classes are private, open for your posts 24/7.
You post your family information and the instructor will help you set
objectives to find the solutions for finding missing data.

Tuition for this class is $125. for three weeks of instruction.

If you are interested in this class, we encourage you to send the
instructor a brief summary of your research information and your
questions to see if your research project fits within the scope of
this class. More information

Hi, All -
If anyone is going to Mt. Ararat, Union Field, or New Montefiore

like some pictures of the grave stones of some family members (just
pictures - I can translate). I would be willing to reimburse you for

Searching for ancestors #general

Alyssa Freeman

Hi, All -
I'm looking for the parents/ancestors and siblings of Abraham
FRIEMAN, Fanny Frieman (nee ZUSSMAN/YOSSEM), Abraham FFAVELUKIS, and
Baile and Morechai/Mordcha DIKERMAN. Abraham F. may have been born in
Galicia in 1899. Fanny was born in Lithuania around 1890, though I
don't know where. Abraham F. was either born in Tiraspol or Odessa
(both Russian at the time) around 1865. Baile and Mordechai Dikerman
**lived** in Odessa in 1868 when my great-grandmother was born, though I
don't know if they were born there.

Both Abrahams and their wives emigrated to the US - the Friemans
originally went to New Jersey and the Favelukises (changed to Fab
in the US) went to New York. To my knowledge, their parents stayed
behind in Russia or died by the time they left (early 20th century).

I have consulted JewishGen and the various databases there, as well
as My Heritage, Geni, and Ancestry. I know Abraham Frieman had
siblings named Jacob and Sarah. I don't know anything else about
Fanny (except about when she was born and when she died). As far as
Abraham Favelukis, I don't know any definite siblings. Mordechai and
Baile had four daughters that I know of - Shava/Bat-Sheva (Abraham
F.'s wife), Matya, Leah (who became Lipis), and Chaya (who became
Silverstein or Silbert).

As I said, I'm looking for the parents and (other) siblings of both
Abrahams, the parents and siblings of Fanny, and the parents and
siblings of Mordechai and Baile Dikerman. Any help would be
appreciated!

Thank you!
