Request for Translation of Tombstone from Bendery Jewish Cemetery #bessarabia

Hello,

I am hoping to gain a full translation of the Russian on this
tombstone >from the Bendery Jewish Cemetery. I have recently gained
information that leads me to believe that those mentioned on this
tombstone (apparently more than one person) are part of my family from
this town. Any help with the translation would be appreciated.

I am researching the second family of my great-great-grandmother, Dena DUNN.
Dena married Gutel HERSHOVITZ in Taurage, Lithuania, and had four children.
I would like to contact the descendants of the eldest child, Anna HERSHOVITZ,
and her husband, Lazar JACOBSON.

Anna and Lazar had five children: Calvin (Kelly), born in 1900; Jacob (Jack),
born in 1903; Gus, born in 1904; Bertha, born in 1906; and Percy, born in 1908.
They were all born near Clarksdale, MS. Sometime after Lazar's death in 1927,
much of the family lived in Chicago.

Calvin and his wife, Blanche HEIFETZ, had one son, Herbert, born in 1931, who
had a son, Robert. Jack, >from whom our family got a lot of information about
the family, and his wife, Betty DAVIDSON, had one son, Jay, born in 1942. Gus
and his wife, Minnie LEBSTEIN, had two children, Diane (Lolly), born in 1926,
and Larry, born in 1929. Diane had three children by her first marriage to
Burt KALLICK: Laurie (later SANS), born in 1947; Deborah, born in 1951; and
Suzanne (later GILLIAM), born in 1957. Larry and his wife, Colleen SAWYER,
had two children, Robin (later SILVERMAN), born in 1955, and Sandra (later
CULLEN), born in 1958. Bertha and her husband, Julius KOHN, did not have
children. Percy and his wife, Mildred ASH, had two children, William (who was
known as William TYNAN), born in 1939, and Robert (Bob).

Actual Polish name is Czesia, [cheh shia] a diminutive form of Czeslawa (the
female version of the male name Czeslaw). One of the numerous old Slavic
names associated with the glory (slava).

I don't believe there is direct Hebrew equivalent to Czeslawa.

There is often no correlation between adopted Polish names and their Hebrew
or Yiddish variations.

As Jewish kids in Poland have been introduced to the Gentile world, they
have adopted Gentile names. Life was just easier to became one of the crowd.

I recall my good friend Chaim became known as Heniek (little Henry), but as
he made Aliya, he became again Chaim.

We would like to ask your help in finding any information about our
grand grandfather Usher MAJNFEL'D who was born in
Bessarabia around 1873 in the Beltsy District. He served in Russian
Army and participated in the Russian-Japanese war in 1904-1905.

So far we had little success in our search. After multiple attempts to
find any information about him online and >from such official
organizations as the National Russian Army Archive, our only lead came from
the list of Russian Army Jewish soldiers injured, killed or missing
in action published by the FAST Genealogy Service
(http://www.bfcollection.net/fast/rjnametown.html) that was translated
from the Russian Invalid newspaper.
According to record obtain >from the FAST site, he served as a Rifleman
in the 9th Eastern Siberian Rifle Regiment and was Injured on 29th
September 1904 at the Village of Bentsikhu.

We will greatly appreciate any references, information or suggestions
on finding more information about him.
