ATTN: Inquiry into Maternal Jewish lineage- Horeish/Hereish/Hereysh/Horeysh.... #germany

JeanPierre Juliet <jeanpierre2308@...>

To all who can assist me I am >from Australia. I am 30 years of age.
Firstly I'd like to wish you all a Shanah Tovah!
I have been searching for my maternal great grandmother's family records
migration paths, censuses and any relevant information on the direct
family tree.

My great grandmother was born approximately in the 1920s. I know this much
- that her parents moved to the Middle East at some indefinite point in
time and were forced to convert to the Shi'ite sect of Islam.

This still baffles my mother and my grandmother to this day since we do
not know why or when this occurred and what drove my great grandmother's
family to the Middle East in the first place!

I found that her family's name in various databases(Czech, Austria,
Romania, Germany, Israel) phonetically matches the following formats
since immigration officers/ record keepers were notorious in spelling
this surname: (please note: CH KH & H sounds at the start of the name
are equivalent depending on which country transliterated the name )
HOIRESH
HOREISH
HEREISH
HERESH
HORESH
HOREYSH
HARESH

I would like to firstly obtain information on the family history. I am only
aware that my maternal line come >from Jewish German/Bohemian/Scandinavian
and Iberian descent.

If there is anyone who can assist me to find the migration routes,
historical information, or any documentation- family trees etc. of my
maternal great grandmother's lineC you would have literally solved my
family's long-lost puzzling history and my greatest appreciation
would be extended to you! I hope to hear >from someone who can assist me!

Warmest Regards & Shalom, JeanPierre, Sydney Australia

ViewMate Translation Request - Polish (HOFFER & PRZEKUPNIK from Biala Podlaska) #general

WALTER ELIAS

I've posted a marriage record >from Biala Podlaska in 2 parts in Polish for
which I need a translation. It is on ViewMate at the following addresses ...
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM42839
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM42840

Surnames are HOFFER and PRZEKUPNIK. I am interested in the name of the groom,
the maiden name of the bride, the ages of the couple, parents' names and the
occupation of the groom.

In this record the surname of the groom does not correspond to his
Hebrew/Yiddish signature which is HOFFER. The name on the marriage record
seems to be ICKHOFF or ICKHOLF. I would appreciate if someone else sees the
discrepancy and can explain it.

Please respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application.
Thank you very much.

The outstanding Great Synagogue of Vilna and its surrounding Shulhoyf, was
once the most important monument of Litvak Jewry. Regrettably, like most of
the monuments of Jewish culture in Lithuania, the Synagogue was destroyed
during and after the Holocaust. Now a team of researchers plan to excavate
and preserve the remains as part of an overall project for a fitting
memorial for the Jews of Vilna and their heritage at the site of the Great
Synagogue.

Tracking immigration to Israel #general

pauline rosenberg

Hi all,

My father had a cousin in the Kielce area of Poland who left for Israel in the
1930's. His name was Baruch KUPKA.

Is there any information system that tracks immigrants who have come to Israel?
Also, if he changed his name (which some Israelis did), how could I research
that?

This is an entire branch of the family we have lost track of, and I would love
to find them.

Thanks,

Pauline Rosenberg
