Help interpreting late annotation on a Berlin death record, SCHUELER JASTROW #germany

Irene Newhouse

I've posted an image of a Berlin death record >from 1911 on ViewMate:
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM49437

I can read all the normal parts. However, someone penciled something
on the page at the upper right. I interpret the first line to mean
that was done some time in 1952; the preceding numbers are day and
month. That in itself has me scratching my head. The 2nd line reads
breast cancer. Ergo, possible cause of death. But why add that so very
much later? The last line, I can't make heads or tails of at all;
that's what I'd like help with.

Lest someone theorize the notes were added at the instigation of a
descendant: I have Rosalie JASTROW nee SCHUELER's marriage record from
Berlin dated 1890. Berlin births have been released to 1899, and I've
found no evidence there were any children.

Thanks in advance! Irene Newhouse Kihei HI USA einew137@yahoo.com

Where did my GGrandfather originate? #general

Ivor Carr

I have recently recommenced research into my maternal ggrandparents
genealogy, but have not been able to determine >from where my ggrandfather
came before arriving in Liverpool, UK.

He appears to have arrived >from Russian Poland in about 1867 with the name
Mordchi Goldberg, but sometime before he applied for naturalisation some 25
years later, changed it to Morris Samuels. His parents were Samuel and
Sarah Eva Goldberg, so I suppose he may have adopted his father's given name
for a reason which at the moment escapes me.

I have placed parts of two documents in Viewmate. They are separate
documents, but comprise parts of his application for Naturalisation and the
acceptance of that application. The references to where he came >from in
Poland in both therefore refer to the same location.
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM49419
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM49420

Any help that I can be give to discover where this town or village is or
was, will be very much appreciated. Also, if It can be positively
identified, do records exist for the location, and how can they be accessed?

Ivor Carr

Samuels (Goldberg), Liverpool

Re: Wording in Birth, Death, & Marriage Records #general

Shelley Mitchell

Alan Seid wants to know about the use of recte and false. I believe
it is very simple but a common question. False means only a religious
marriage so the second name is "not the husband under civil law."
Recte means the opposite. They had a civil ceremony and so the wife
may use the husband's last name.

Teddy CAMBER - British Intelligence and Canadian arrest #general

Jules Feldman

Teddy (Theodore) CAMBER was born in Raseiniai, Lithuania in 1894. In 1912 he
migrated to the UK and in WW1 served in the Royal Air Force.
On 1 August 1940 he was in Kaunus, Lithuania and received a visa >from the
Japanese consul Sugihara.

According to his nephew Isaac CAMBER, Teddy was in Lithuania as a British
Intelligence agent and followed events in Russia. When he stepped into
Russia the Russians were not very pleased to see him and put him on the
Trans-Siberian train in a carriage without windows. When he reached Canada
the Canadian authorities detained him as a suspected German spy and he sat a
few weeks until the British authorities arranged for his release.

A number of questions that arise:
How do I find documentation for Teddy's WW1 service? For his service in
British Intelligence in 1940? For his detention in Canada?

Thanks,
Jules Feldman

This summer, I will be attending the IAJGS Conference in Seattle, WA, August 7-12, 2016
Usually, you are used to reading my posts on various topics
on the Jewish Genealogy Facebook Pages, the JewishGen digests or the JewishGen Blog.
Now, you will have the opportunity to see my posts for the duration of the Conference ONLY
on the JewishGen Facebook Page which you should and sign up for.

For those of you who are attendees at the Conference, you may see me at a session, perhaps
in the resource room, at a lab, or a luncheon or a social e=
vent. I will try and cover a bit of it all. So, if you recognize me, please do stop and say hello.
Tell me what you are doing and what you are learning and what brick walls you are trying to
break down.

If you are unable to attend the Conference, be sure to look at the JewishGen Facebook
Page as I will be posting there once a day. Also, remember to get LIVE
to see gavel-to-gavel coverage of the sessions.
In this way, you will be able to keep up with what is happening at the Conference.

I am looking forward to interacting with you all and learning a lot
at the Conference. See you soon!!!
