Lubomierz, Limanowa, Poland #galicia

Dean Karau <drkarau@...>

I am trying to find pre-1900 historical information about Lubomierz,
Limanowa, Poland, where my maternal grandmother was born. I doubt
I will be able to trace her family much farther back, so I am focusing
on trying to flesh out details about the kind of life she likely led, the
history of the town and the area, etc. I would appreciate any help.

Thank you.

Galicia Question #galicia

I am researching Jewish soldiers >from WWI. I came across a Siegfried
REINSBERG that died for Germany on 10.8.1916 in Bzowika, Galizien.
Does anyone have any idea where Bzowika would have been?

The fighting in 1916 was in the Eastern part of Galicia.

Please let me know.

Thank you in advance.

Hello

The answer is - Absolutely not. Although the names have this inner
bond between them, as recounted in the Talmud. There is a parallel
between the level of significance.

However, practically all of which was used as separate. Sometimes
you can find them together, "Esther Hadassah," and find them each
individually.

Ruth,

"Hudes" (probably same as Hudesa), is a Yiddish version or
pronunciation for Yehudis, or in Modern Hebrew, Yehudit = Judith.

As has been pointed out, Hadassah was the "Hebrew" name for Queen Esther
(Esther is believed to have originated >from Astarte), but since then Esther by
itself is considered a Hebrew name in its own right.

Regarding "Hudesa" the name Hudes is a Yiddish diminutive for the Hebrew
name Yehudis / Yehudit (in English Judith).

Re: Unable to find names on NY passenger lists - LOSEFF #general

Barbara Zimmer

Walter Rossett was looking for his LOSEFF relatives who reported arriving in
New York City aboard the Carmania in December 1905. He named Schifre LOSEFF
born in 1894 as one of the arrivals.

Using wild cards for Schifre (S*H*F*) born in 1894 and departing >from Liverpool
in late 1905, I found an outbound manifest for Schifre LOSEN [sic] and her
mother and siblings. The siblings included Scholem (Saul/Solomon?) and Daische
(Dora?).

When the family arrived in NYC, Schifre's given name was transcribed as Schipl
but I was still able to find the Losen clan and see that they were headed to a
brother in Chicago.

I suspect that the surname was originally written down as LOSEW (pronounced as
Loseff) and the final character was read incorrectly.

A significant roadblock in my research about the Gottlieb family #general

דוד נ.א.

Hello
I want to share a significant roadblock in my research about the GOTTLIEB family.

It is that of all my search result is up to now - zero. Nothing. Nothing like
this did not happen to me the other families in research. Perhaps any of you had
an idea not thought of.

I am looking for information about parents of Hinda-Basha SINGER - nee GOTTLIEB.
Father: Isaiah. Born sometime before 1872. He died around 1910. was a rabbi in
the town Zlotniki (Ternopol, Galicia). Probably also lived in town Stretin
(Rohatyn, Galicia). Died either in the town Stretin or Bukachevtsy (Rohatyn,
Galicia). The funeral was for sure in town Bukachevtsy.
Mother: Esther Malka (nee LAMGNER - not sure) (born sometime before 1875 - died
sometime after 1905).
Daughter: Hinda Basha. She was born about 1890. Her eldest son was born in 1905
in town Bukachevtsy. Killed in the Holocaust in 1942 in town Bukachevtsy.
This is what I know.

Beginning of the end - I got (for a donation of $ 100 to JRI) records of
Bukachevtsy. There is a marriage of 1900-1908. I could not find there the wedding
of Hinda Basha. I found the children's birth records of Hinda Basha - records
does not appear parents' names of Hinda-Basha or information about them. Write
Hinda Basha is >from the town of Stretin.

I looked for the birth of Hinda Basha in the town Stretin - JRI missing in most
of births between 1881-1898.

I looked for the birth / marriage certificates death or other of the family each
in the town Zlotniki - Mark Halperin says that all the documents of the town
Zlotniki did not survive.

I looked for the birth or marriage of Malka Esther Langner - at JRI and Gesher
in Galicia. I found nothing. I can not search for a specific archive - because I
have no idea about the town and the year.

I looked for the death of Malka Esther LANGNER - her death a hundred recent
years, so it is in USC in Warsaw book of any town (maybe Bukachevtsy?). In any
case, they do not agree to search that I have no specific Year of Death.

I looked for the birth or marriage of Isaiah GOTTLIEB - JRI and Gesher Galicia.
I found nothing. I can not search for a specific archive - because I have no
idea about the town and the year.

I looked for the death of Isaiah GOTTLIEB in the USC office in Warsaw (between
1909-1911) - They searched the books of Rohatyn (including the Stretin),
Burstein and Bukachevtsy - It's strange, but they did not find anything.

I was looking for general information Rohatyn's memory book, database JRI,
Gesher-Galicia - anything useful.

I found in Ternopol birth of a woman named Hinda Basha Gottlieb in
1898, daughter of Benzion and Tila- it might be a cousin of Hinda
Basha "our" (Benzion may be a brother of Isaiah) - but Hinda Basha
called at all in the name of the mother of Tila, it is not on the side
of Gottlieb. So it's probably not related.

I found in Trembowla birth of a woman as may be the cousin of Hinda and Basha,
but I have no proof: birth in 1898 of Hinda and Basha Basen daughter of Sheindel,
and Sheindel is the daughter of Joseph and Basha GOTTLIEB. Perhaps Joseph and
and Basha are the parents of Isaiah. (Joseph may be the brother of Isaiah, and
the baby may be a cousin of Hinda Basha "our").

It is rumored that Esther Malka related to the famous family LANGNER - The rebbes
from Stretin. I checked all their family tree to find a possible family
relationship - nothing.

I hope not burdened amount of information. I did not want to bother proposals
already checked.

Before I give up, I try to ask for your help. Does anyone have an idea?
Thank you in advance for any reference.
