For GerSig's members whose roots are in the Posen region of the

for the vanished community of Schoenlanke that was founded in 1736 and
flourished for 200 years, (now Trzcianka, Poland), might be of additional
interest in their research.

This village grew into the small town, variously known as Trcionka,

Elchanan UNGER (1824-1927) and connection to UNGERs of Dabrowa #rabbinic

Steven Bloom <sbloom@...>

Rabbi Elchanan UNGER of Piatek and Warsaw (1824-1927) seems to have
connections to the Dabrowa Unger Dynasty, though I can't quite place
him on public trees.

from a Geni tree (which may or may not be correct) the Dabrowa family
starts with Tzi Hirsch Unger, who had a son, Mordecai David b. about
1770. Mordecai David then had 5 sons, Avraham Elchanan, Moshe, Menachem
Mendel, Jehiel Tzi and Yosef. I believe these are the ancestors of the
current Babover Rebbe, Mordecai David Unger.

A number of these names are similar to the family of the first Elchanan
Unger I mentioned above. This Elchanan was son of Mordecai Motl Mendel,
son of Natan. Elchanan's brothers were Natan, Naftali and Joel Tzvi.
Some of them were said to have been >from Dabrowa.

I am a relative of Elchanan's first wife, Shifra Halpern.

I'd appreciate any insight into the connection, if there is one. Thank
you.

Joseph marriage to daughter of Admo"r of Lechovitz #rabbinic

Yonatan Ben-Ari

My great great grandfather' (David)s brother Joseph, married the
daughter of the Admo"r of Lechovitz, Rabbi Aharon and Pearl. Pearl, I
believe, was the daughter of the Admo"r of Stolin and/or Karlin. I am
not sure of David and Joseph's family name but there is a presumption
that it was ROSENBAUM. David's children went under the name SCHECHTER
as per their profession.

Does anyone have biographical information on Joseph's parents and/or
other ancestors.

TIA

Yoni Ben-Ari, Jerusalem

ViewMate translation request - Note on a photo Nathan KATZENSTEIN and his wife, Gimmi nee LOEWENSTEIN #germany

jplowens@...

I've posted a short note of which I need a translation. The note is on
the back of a small photograph of, probably, Nathan KATZENSTEIN,
his wife and son.

It is on ViewMate at the following address ...
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM53208

My father was one of 46 LOWENSTEIN (O umlaut) = LOEWENSTEIN first
cousins >from Breckenheim, Wallau and later
Erbenheim Hessen Nassau. (East of Wiesbaden).

One of the cousins was Gimmi Lowenstein b. Oct. 19, 1896 in Wallau who
married Nathan KATZENSTEIN born October 8, 1891.
I don't know where his KATZENSTEIN family lived. Nathan died October
8, 1949. Gimmi remarried (HESS) and died May 14, 1964.

The couple, Gimmi's widowed mother Ricke nee WEINGARTNER and their
son, Eugen / Eugene KATZENSTEIN emigrated
to the New York area in the 1930s with the help of her wealthy uncle,
Benjamin LOWENSTEIN, who had come >from Breckenheim to New York in 1883
and made a fortune in the metals and smelting business.

All were buried in a 48 grave Lowenstein plot in Union Field Cemetery
(Ridgewood, NY) which "Uncle Ben" donated to his refugee siblings and
their families. Union Field was established by Congregation Rodeph Sholom,
a Reform synagogue in Manhattan. Benjamin LOWENSTEIN and his immediate
family rest in a mausoleum near the entrance and chapel at Union Field.

I'm collecting information about all my LOWENSTEIN great aunts, uncles
and cousins and will gratefully exchange data and documents
from my files with members of this family who reciprocate. Please contact me
if you can help me learn more about the family of Nathan KATZENSTEIN.

Thank you very much.

I have posted three photographs each with comments on the back that
I believe are in Yiddish. Thank you to those who have already supplied
translations for two of these photographs. I would appreciate any
assistance translating the comments or recognizing the names that
have already been translated in the replies. I believe the photographs
may have been taken in Lithuania before World War II, but I do not know
if the subjects are members of the KATEVUSHNIK family that I am researching.
They are at Viewmate at the following addresses:

Hi,

I've posted a list written in German that I need help reading and
understanding. It is on ViewMate at the following address:

I believe it lists the children of my ancestor, Salomon REICH, and may
also list the names of their spouses and locations. Salomon lived in
what is now Hranice, Czech Republic (formerly called Mahrisch
Weisskirchen).

This list is an excerpt >from a document that relates to the death of
Salomon and the transfer of ownership of his house
