Announcing our 2017/5777 Volunteer of the Year! #general

Groll, Avraham

At last week's 2017 IAJGS conference, JewishGen was proud to name Dr.
Janette Silverman, coordinator of the JewishGen Ukraine SIG, as the
recipient of our 2017/5777 Volunteer of the Year award.

Over the years, Janette has devoted an enormous amount of time to
JewishGen's important work. In addition to serving as the coordinator
for the JewishGen Ukraine SIG, she serves as a moderator for the
JewishGen Discussion Groups, has previously served on our operations
committee, and is someone who consistently tries to help in any way
that she can. The results of her hard work are readily apparent to
users, and her organizational skills are admired by her many co-
volunteers.

We wish Janette a Mazal Tov on this well-deserved honor, and express
our sincere gratitude for her outstanding contributions and devotion to
JewishGen and the broader Jewish genealogical community.

Mazal Tov!

Viewmate 45999: Understanding the Numbers on naturalization index card for the NY Southern District court #general

Moishe Miller

Dear Group,

I hope you are having a pleasant summer.

I've posted a document >from the naturalization index cards for the NY
Southern District court. It is:
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM45999

On the card I see 3 numbers:
1. Top right is the C-File number, 5313277
2. Lower left is the Petition number, 439413
3. Over the signature is 1778138. What is that? I can tell you what it
is not. It is not the declaration # (410324) or the Certificate of
Arrival # (2 555179). Someone suggested it is a court docket number? Any
thoughts? And, if it is something like a court docket, where are those
documents and what do they contain?

Please respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application.
Thank you very much.
