Ukraine SIG has been hard at work translating and indexing some records
from Berdichev over the last few years. Thanks to Alex Kopelberg and
many other volunteers who worked on these, there are over 8,100 people
from the 1858 Revision List whose information has been indexed. These

Seeking information on Rabbis Chaim Wolf and Josef ELLENBOGEN of Rzeszow, Poland #rabbinic

Aaron Slotnik

Hello,

I'm trying to find information on Rabbi Chaim Wolf ELLENBOGEN who appears
to have been a rabbi in Rzeszow, Poland (Galicia at the time) >from about
1870 until his death in 1899. According to the 1870 Rzeszow Census on
JRI-Poland, he and his children were born in Husiatyn, Ukraine--him in
1821 and his children >from 1853 to 1867. According to the JRI-Poland
Rzeszow vital record indices, his death record has a comment "Rabin" and
his wife Lea's death in 1885 has a comment "Zona rabina". I haven't seen
the original records. I'm interested in any information about him, but
most importantly his father's name so I can try to determine how he is
related to the other ELLENBOGENs of Husiatyn.

According to the Rzeszow yizkor book, his son Josef was "head of the
rabbinic court" (https://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/rzeszow/rze160.html).
It looks like this would have been around 1920 and assume this means he
was ABD, but haven't looked at the original text. I would be interested
in any information about him as well.

Thanks,
Aaron Slotnik
