I am helping someone with a tree with some conflicting locations and
surnames. This couple were Shoah victims, so we would like as much
information as possible >from the record. Eventually, the requestor would
like to know if they had children and I hope these details will help
identify those offspring.

from the extraction on JRI-Poland, the marriage record is between
Joachim WEINRAUB and Riwka Perl KONIGSBERG. However, the family
name going forward is MAIMON, which is confusing. Can someone
please decipher the names of the bride, groom and their parents?

The record also identifies several different towns that have me confused.
Where were the bride and groom born? Where did they live when the
marriage occurred?

Finally, is there any other information in the record? How about the note
in the final column?

Thank you very much for your help!

I have reposted a photo. Photo was taken at Ellis Island in 1914. The
woman in the center is my maternal grandmother, Gussie (Gneshe)

I am searching for YUNOVITCH family info from Volkavysk #belarus

Alex Sokol <alexstuffbox@...>

I am searching for more information about my grandfather's
family...especially his parents and extended family.

Hi Name was Lasar YUNOVITCH and he was >from Volkovysk.
What I know is that his father was named Dovid Yunovitch and his
mother was Golde (though I do not know her maiden name). My
grandfather had 10 siblings. Two older brothers went to the UK, most
of the children got out just before the revolution, but my grandfather
was there with two of his siblings - His sister Franke (Frances) and
his youngest brother Smuel (Samuel).

My grandfather's story during the way we have (my father wrote a book
about him before he died), but what I am having trouble tracing is
back into my great grandparents and earlier generations.
If anyone has any clues on how to research this or any information
about the Yunovitch family in Volkavysk Belarus, I would appreciate it
greatly. I'd love to know my grandfather's mother's maiden name.

Thank you for any help.
Kindest Regards,
Alexandra Yanow (Yunovitch) Sokol

BIRENBAUM families >from Putnock

Hi, Can anyone help me in my situation. What is known to me is my
grandparents Herman BIRENBAUM born in Spisske was married to Esther
ATLAS and lived in Putnock for most of their lives. A few years
before the war they moved to Ozd. >from there they were deported to
Auschwitz and killed. Also in the Yad Vashem database there is a card
battalion for Esther Atlas born in Bardejov Slovakia to Izsak Atlas
and Margit Goldfarb.
But in Yad Vashem Database there is a testimony for a Esther married
to Herman Birenbaum born in Spisske living in Putnock but with other
details. Esther's maiden name is Braun born in Bodrog Kerestier and a
widow. So was there two Herman Birenbaumes married both to a Esther
but aren't the same?

Thanks for your help Jacob Yeshaya Fogel Montreal

When I asked my late father, to who with the name Wieder we are related to,
he told me that we had a relative called Moshe Wieder (Vider) in Satmar
(Satu Mare) Romania

Lately I found that there was a Moshe Wieder (Vider) in Satmar that was born
in Desesti and was a son of Jakov Zvi ben Moshe David ben Meir (ben Moshe)
Wieder

That means that he was at most a Third cousin of my grandfather David Zvi
(Hersh) son of Zeev Wolf son of David Zvi (maybe son of Mordechai (Census
1848 David 12 years old son of Mordechai in Breb?) maybe son of (same)
Moshe?

If anybody knows any information about a Moshe Wieder in Satmar please let
me know

Thanks.

(Cyprus) The JDC Archives Has Internment Camps Documents Including Lists of Jewish Births For Those Prevented Getting Into Palestine in 1946 #general

Jan Meisels Allen

The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) has records of
"illegal immigrants"-many were Holocaust survivors trying to get to
Palestine after World War II. British authorities decided to send people
trying to enter Palestine "illegally" to internment camps that the British
established in Cyprus. There were 12 camps holding more than 50,000 people.

The JDC received permission >from the British to provide services to the
internees. After the establishment of the State of Israel, the interned
refugees were able to make their way to Israel. More than 2,000 babies were
born in the internment camps.

The JDC Archives includes information on the Cyprus internment camps
operations including the lists of Jewish births The lists cover 500 births

The Jewish Genealogical Society of South Africa will be hosting Eli
Rabinowitz, an economist, film maker, family and Jewish history researcher
who will be visiting >from Perth, Australia and will present:-

In the Footsteps of Zallman Tzoref: Tracing 200 year of Litvak Family
History and Legacy

Inspired by the Vilna Gaon, in 1811 Avraham Shlomo Zalman Tzoref left
Keidan, Lithuania for Jerusalem where his mission was to rebuild the
Ashkenazi community in the Old City. Tzoref was murdered in 1851 but the
story certainly does not end there. It reflects on Tzoref's life and
achievements through his 20,000 strong Salomon descendants, who for 200
years have made their mark as part of his enduring legacy. In 2011, exactly
200 years after Tzoref left Keidan, our speaker, Eli returns to the town and
re-establishes his family connections with Tzoref's birthplace.

This topic was previously presented in 2017 at the IAJGS Conference in
Orlando, Florida.

Date: 4th February, 2018 (Sunday)
Time: 19:39
Venue: HOD Centre, Oaklands, Johannesburg, South Africa.
