The Altschottland 1880 familienbuch / census of Jewish Community
members' families (CAHJP file Da/596) has been fully transcribed and
needs proofreading before it can be added to the searchable Danzig
Database (part of the JewishGen Germany and Poland Databases). If you
would like to help proofread, please email me. You will need to be
able to read German Kurrent-style handwriting (this is very legible).
There are 418 entries across 55 images, consisting almost entirely of
names and dates, with a few short remarks, and I estimate it will take
2-3 hours to proofread.

INTRO - researching MEYER family from Bremen, Germany #germany

Günter Cimiotti <gunter.cimiotti@...>

Hello GerSig,
I just joined the group. I have been doing genealogy research for
40 years. I consider myself to be advanced in doing German Genealogy,
but a beginner in doing Jewish Genealogy research.
I live in Paderborn, Northrhine-Westfalia, Germany.
My native language is German and I also know English and some Italian.
I consider myself intermediate in using a computer. My experience in
using the Internet is intermediate.

I have identified the names of my mother's employer family in Bremen.
My primary research goals now are to find out whether there are
descendants of this employer in the USA-

The family names and ancestral towns that I have found:
MEYER, Abraham 1846 Rodenberg
BLUEMENTHAL, Henriette 1852
MEYER, Nathan 1855
MEYER, Otto Hermann 1882 Bremen
BAER, Alice 1891
MEYER, Claus Hermann 1923 Bremen
MEYER, Hella Margret 1927 Bremen

Dear Itzik,

My father was born in 1908 in Hungary. In 1941-2 he was drafted into the Forced Labor service, digging trenches for the Hungarian Second Army. In January, 1943, he died near Voronezh (Russia) of typhoid fever, I think. He was a chemist and a pianist.

Veronica Singer (born Szalai Veronika Magdolna, Budapest 1939).

Hello and Happy Passover Siggers,

I am wondering if anyone here knows if there was a Mandatory Military
Service in Hungary. At what age were people required to draft and for
how long?

The reason for my question is that I know my father had been drafted
to Military service of several years before WWII broke (he was born
1915). I know that he was released >from service and returned home.

Then, after WWII broke, he was drafted again to Forced Labor
Battalions around 1941.

I am trying to draw the timeline of his life events and I am missing
this piece.

Thank you all for your help,

Itzik Katz

ViewMate Russian and Hebrew translation to English (4 documents) #general

Hello,

I have posted three registries in Russian and one in both Russian and
Hebrew that I would like translated to English. Three are marriage
registries, and one is a death registry. If you go to ViewMate, you will
see in the instructions the specific row to be translated in each
registry.

I would prefer responses via ViewMate.

Thank you very much for your assistance.
