This points out the helpfulness your local Jewish Genealogy Society can
provide. If you are in need of a speaker on any topic related to genealogy,
whether it is an introduction for people who are not knowledgeable on the
subject, or a look at DNA or other advanced topic, many JGS's offer a
Speaker's Bureau with vetted presenters on a wide range of topics. If you
are the program chair for a synagogue, Jewish organization, library, or any
other group looking for a speaker on genealogy, Google to see if you have a
local society and contact them for speakers, price, and availability.

Genners,
I belong to a Temple in Glendale CA and a group of the members have a
committee called L'dor VaDor. They are planning to have a speaker explain
genealogy to the Temple members and anyone else who would like to attend.

This is planned for 02 December and they have asked me to give the talk but
unfortunately I am leaving for a cruise on 01 December and cannot do it.

I was wondering if there is anyone who resides in the Glendale, Pasadena, or
Burbank area that would like to give this talk.

If there is anyone interest, please respond to me privately as
marilynjps32@gmail.com.

Holten, Germany ,GUMPERTZ family #germany

Lin Herz <lin2@...>

Dear GerSIGers,
I am looking for the official site for Holten, Germany
to find out more about some relatives. I have been unable to find the
"official" site for Holten.

I recently found a new fourth cousin living in
Australia. She descends >from my 2x great grandfather's sister,
Regina HERZ GUMPERTZ. MY newfound cousin, Inge WEISS
MARCOS's mother was Helene GUMPERTZ WEISS, born in Holten,
Oberhausen, North-Rhein-Westphalia. (Helene's father paid for the family
to go to Australia in the 1930s to flee Germany). I want to find out
more about the family.

One person I'm trying to find out more about is Gustav GUMPERTZ,
brother of Inge's father. I have found some evidence he died in
the United States possibly San Francisco or Ohio, but other evidence
that he died in Cologne. I thought perhaps Holten would have some
records of where he moved. He was born in 1851 and died in 1930.

Inge's partner is the one who did most of the family genealogy.
Some of the information on the tree contradicts other, so I'm
fairly certain he is just copying what he finds in other ancestry trees,
and puts any hint he receives in his tree.

Any suggestions for how I would find Holten Oberhausen would be greatly
appreciated, as well as how to find out more about this family.

Sincerely, Lin Herz Palm Bay, Florida lin2@cfl.rr.com

Hi GerSIGers, I'd be grateful for help with what may be a challenging project.
I'm searching for living family of Bianka HAMBURGER, born Irma Bianca
Blume LOEWENHERZ, Berlin 1877 - Berlin 1942, wife of Ludwig HAMBURGER
Berlin 1867 - Berlin 1923.
She was a splendid and remarkable woman:
a leading light both in the Reform Jewish movement and in women's rights
and education, also Vorstand/director both of the Jewish Hospital and of
the Association of Jewish Nurses.
She tragically took her own life on the eve
of her scheduled deportation. A Stolperstein was laid for her in Berlin in
2011. More about her (in German) here:
https://tinyurl.com/y78fqg4v and here:https:=//tinyurl.com/ybbn2ea4
She was completely unknown to me until last weekend, when I discovered to
my delight that she and my maternal grandmother Lony RABL born
FRAENKEL (U u mlaut) were 2nd cousins (not yet recorded on the commercial
genealogy websites).
I'd love to make contact with any living descendants. The second of the links
above suggests that Bianka and Ludwig had three children who escaped the
Holocaust by emigrating. The only one I've found so far is Hilde STRAUSS
born HAMBURGER, Berlin 1909 - Israel 2006.
Hilde came to Palestine in the > early 1930s, still single, giving
her profession as photographer
https://tinyurl.com/ycvdzxje and it's suggested that she and her husband
volunteered with the British Forces in North Africa during WW2. Yad Vashem
has a Page of Testimony she wrote for Bianka in 1973, when she gave an
address in Nahariya.
[There's a more famous Hilde STRAUSS also >from Nahariya, co-founder
with her husband of the very large STRAUSS food group:
but that one's a namesake, different birth name and different dates.]
Our Hilde is buried at Yarkon Cemetery in Petah Tikva - I've found a photo
of her gravestone there, via MyHeritage and billiongraves.com- but
I don't know whether she had children, much less grandchildren. And if she
indeed had siblings, so far I haven't identified them.
- Does anyone recognise any of this family?
- Here's a link to a photo of Bianka's Stolperstein being laid in 2011:

Who can identify anyone in the photo, especially family members?
All suggestions gratefully received!
