Date
1897 All Russia Census - Vilna District #belarus

Joelrat@...

A statistical analysis of the 1897 All Russia Census was published in
1900 titled "Premier Recensement General de la Population de L'Empire
de Russie, 1897 - Publication du Comite Central de Statistique sous la
redaction de N. Troinitsky". I have been able to locate just one section
of this publication which is Section IV - Gouvernement de Vilna [Vilna
Gubernia].

Listings are given for each district in Vilna Gubernia, detailing the
population of each district by town, listing all towns with greater than
500 inhabitants. This listing provides the researcher with the location
of towns for purposes of the 1897 Census.

Guide to the terms in French

ville = city or town
faubourg = suburb
village = village
bourg = borough or village
hameau = hamlet

A copy of the complete statistical data for Vilna Gubernia [55 pages] will
be made available by the LitvakSIG at Salt Lake City. This includes the
population by age and sex [Russian subjects only]. Additional information
is given for population by social class, >from Russian nobility to
foreigners.

This data does not contain family names, only the demographics of the
population. We have no records >from the 1897 Census. Please do not inquire
about how you can obtain these records.

The Vilna District was one of seven districts in Vilna Gubernia - the
others were Vileika, Disna, Lida, Oshmiany, Sventzion and Troki. The
listings of the towns in these districts for purposes of the 1897 census,
including the population breakdown by age can be found in the copy of this

Jewish cemetaries #belarus

I recently was looking at a map of Jerusalem and there
seems to be only one Jewish cemetary listed. I
understand that my great grandfather (Isaac a/k/a
Chiam EPSTEIN) is buried in Jerusalem, he died in the
flu epidemic of 1917-18. How would I find out if he
is buried in this cemetary, and if so, where his grave
is. I may be in Jerusalem in December, 2000.

Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Is there access to the UK Census on line? Do they do their census
every 10 years as they do in the U.S. I have relatives that came
through England.

Some stayed, as well.

Thank you,

Dear SIG members,
If anyone is travelling to Belarus this summer or
fall, I have been trying for a very long time to
obtain the Rosenblatt/Yelenskaya book "Pinsk Jews".
If it is in Russian, that will be fine - I read
Russian and I will pay whatever the cost of the book
is on the market.

Please post replies to my e-mail: pinsk2@...

Dear Diane,
My aunt Rosalie's Hebrew Name was Ra-chel.Listed on her tombstone.
Ruth is in Hebrew pronounced Root. So it's already a Hebrew name.

From: "Diane Jacobs" <kingart@...>
Can anyone also tell me what might Rose or Ruth's Hebrew
name be?

I would also present this question to those knowledgable
with English/Jewish names. Rosetta is not your usual
Jewish or even English name. Is is possible that she had
two jewish or English names Rose Etta
and that this is the woman whom Isaac Levy named
on his marriage certificate.? Isaac Levy had a daughter
named Ruth Lesnie who lived in

New York City voter registration records #general

Anita Frankel <frankel@...>

Hi!

I have been trying to obtain voter registration records for Brooklyn
and Manhattan but am stymied by the need for AD (assembly district)
and ED (election district) numbers.

The best years to find a voter would be presidential election years
(e.g., 1920, 1924, 1928 etc.). But the only sources I know of for
ED/AD information (maps for Brooklyn and the card file for Manhattan)
correspond to the dates of the New York State census (1905, 1915, 1925).

There seems to be a wide disparity in district numbers >from year to year.
Is there another source of AD ED numbers?

Has anyone succeeded in finding voter registration information for NYC?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

If a Jew died in Ann Arbor MI in 1981 would there be a specific funeral
home/cemetery that would handle the burial? Would the funeral home still
be in business? Thanks for the help.
