Rumanian address #general

IsraelP <zach4v6@...>

An old immigration file at the Central Zionist archives contains an
inquiry about someone whose last known address (pre WWII??) is

Cresul Stalin Str.
Piata 23 August No. 10, Apt 10.

There is a handwritten note that this is Rumania.

Is there a city name hiding in ther that I missed?

Prust and Labischin #poland

MHMarx@...

I have been trying to find birth and marriage records for my maternal great
grandparents:
- Samuel VANDSBURGER born 11 Dec 1851 in Prust Kr. Tuchel, West Prussia,
now Pruszcz, Poland
- Susanna GOLDSTEIN born 2 Jun 1857 in Labischin, West Prussia, now
Labiszyn, Poland

I wrote to the Polish State Archives in Bydgoszcy. Their reply stated that
they could not find these documents since "we don't have any records for
Labiszyn and Pruszcz in the county of Tuchola."

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might proceed to a more sucessful
outcome?

Thanks

Dear Genners,

We add our prayers to all of the families that have been directly affected by
yesterdays events. Who would have ever believed that our shores would ever be
breached?

We also wish to express our gratitude to all the Genners who have been
expressing words of comfort and support, living both in and out of the United
States. Your words are much appreciated.

We stand united behind the president and congress. Our 2 flags have been
flying since noon, September 11, 2001, as an expression of our unity.

Internet access problems #lithuania

Ada Greenblatt <ada.Greenblatt@...>

Because the wiring underneath the World Trade Center was a major
telecommunications junction here in NYC, I had been without internet access
for over 48 hours. It just came back up this evening, but I am still
having a very difficult time getting on-line because the line is constantly
busy.

At this time, kindly refrain >from sending me anything other than matters
pertaining specifically to the Kaunas district research group. Please
pardon any delays that may occur in my getting back to you. Due to my
backlog of work and volume of email, if I may be so blunt (Litvak trait?),
I would prefer not to receive any New Year's greetings. It's putting an
undue pressure on me to reciprocate, which I unable to. Thanks in advance
for your understanding.

I was supposed to fly off on vacation this weekend. NOT!

Ms Teresa Galloway <teresagalloway@...>

I would be interested in helping create a list of passengers from
Lutsk/Luck. If anyone else is interested (or has already started) in
working on such a list, please contact me and let me know. Any
suggestions for alternate spellings of Luck would be appreciated as
well.

Thanks,

Re my recent inquiry concerning the surname LUDIVINSKY (Zsashkov, Tarascha,
or vicinity), I have just learned that there were Ludivinsky cousins living
on Magnolia Street in Malden, Massachusetts in 1918. Does this ring a bell
with anyone?

Mokalof, Castle Garden #ukraine

Seth Orloff <sethorloff@...>

Dear Friends:

I discovered that my ggf, on his naturalization papers, gave his birth town as
Mokalof, Russia. I tried this out in shtetl seeker, but since I have no
particular aptitude for pronouncing those town names, I can't guess which ones
would sound like Mokalof. In my ignorance, I would guess Mogilev in Belarus is
the favorite. If anyone can help by telling me about the Jewish community
there in 1900, I'd appreciate it. Are there any other likely suspects?

Yesterday, I made a trip to the Pittsfield NARA office to check out the Castle
Garden records and their Soundex Ellis Island index. Several of you have asked
about Castle Garden records, and my advice to you: unless you have a burning
desire to know how many pieces of luggage your ggf brought to America, don't
bother. I had similar poor luck with the EI soundex. I was told that it is
only about 50% complete, but it still seemed worth a shot.

Peace,
Seth Orloff
