Searching for Meyer Schram #galicia

Sally Vetstein <svetter@...>

I am trying to solve a mystery about a Great Uncle Named Mejer Schram
also known as Mejer Neumarkt. He was born in Zabno, Poland and lived
in Tarnow also.

He was listed as a butcher for his trade but was a peddler selling goods
off a wagon. He lived in Hamburg and Altona Germany off and on since
1907. He was born May 5, 1880 according to various resident documents
in Germany and a marriage bann to 2nd wife Curtel.

We can't find any information past 1925 when he returned to Poland from
Hamburg Germany. He had 3 wives: Esther Zelt, Curtel Brandt (Fischel)
and Minka Lewniowska as well as several children. One child, Nathan Zelt,
perished in the Holocaust in Auschwitz and his last wife Minka and son
Hermann perished in Chelmo killing center.

Recently I found a burial listing in Argentina for a Meyer Schram but the
inscription says he was 89 at his death in 1960. That appears to make him
older than my Uncle who was born in 1880. The cemetery association has
no other information on this person. There is an additional burial for
Ruchla Leitman Schram buried in 1958 in the same cemetary ( Tablada). I
can't find any information about her either.

from documents related to his son Nathan Zelt, he states his father was
alive in 1929 and probably living off and on in Germany. I don't know if
there are any records >from Poland as it has been hard to contact the
archives recently with my emails coming back... perhaps their server is on
vacation???

I have tried many web sites for Argentina and it's a frustrating experience
with broken links for supposed genealogy and research sites. Does
anyone have any contacts in Argentina that could help with research and
fluent in English and Spanish? If I solve this mystery, then my family story
will be complete on that end. Help!

How to attend the IAJGS conference when you can't get to Seattle #galicia

Janette Silverman <cochairs@...>

My Co-Chairs and I know >from the emails we get, that there are so many
people who want to attend the upcoming conference in Seattle, Aug 7-12,
but who just can't fit the conference into their calendar or their budget.
Although virtually attending the conference isn't as fabulous as being
there, it does provide access to about 90% of all of the conference
sessions. We also know that many of the attendees are frustrated at not
being to attend every session, and since there are over 235 sessions,
that's obviously physically impossible, so we have solutions for you.

There are two ways to hear/see what's happening at the conference,
and they work well together. I'll briefly describe each of them, since
their titles may not be descriptive enough. The first is LIVE! This
provides live streaming of sessions by some of our most popular
speakers. This means that if you have the time, you can watch (and
hear) the sessions as they are being presented, as if you were there!
The conference is in Seattle, Washington, so the time of each session is
listed in Pacific Daylight Time (UTC/GMT -7 hours). If you don't have
time to tune in while the session is streaming, no worries. After the
conference is over, you 90 days to access the session "on demand".

The other way to hear the sessions is to purchase the audio/slides
recording. Almost all of the sessions at the conference are being
recorded (voice only) with the slides the presenter is using. Some
presenters do not have their slides being recorded, in which case, the
recording of that session is only audio. If you purchase this, you will
receive the whole package a few weeks after the conference is over and
be able to listen to the presentation and see the slides as your leisure.
Not all presentations that are on LIVE! are having audio recordings made.

To purchase LIVE! and/or the audio and slides, go to the IAJGS 2016
website (http://www.iajgs2016.org/) then, under the registration tab,
Select New Registration;
Click "Go to Registration Form (for starting out)" near the bottom;
Click the gray New Registration button;
Enter your personal information and click Continue;
Select 5. Full LIVE! only (not attending in Seattle) or
7. Full LIVE! & Full Audio/slides (not attending in Seattle) and
continue to the end.

Of course, if you are attending the conference and want to purchase the
packages, there are options on the menu above to do that as well.

Looking forward to seeing many of you in Seattle!

Jeff Miller

In the translation of a document for my family >from Frampol (outside of
Kamenets-Podolskiy), I am interested in learning about Hebrew and English
name equivalents (or best guesses) for some of the names mentioned in the
following translation.

Also, a related branch of this family went to Russia and the males for three
generations took the names Moishe, Sanya, and Mikhail; likewise, I am
interested in learning about Hebrew and English name equivalents (or best
guesses) for these names.

Family information should be sent to Jeff Miller at singingtm@comcast.net

Help understand letter in German #poland

Inacio Steinhardt

I have a letter written by my grand-father to my father, at the
beginning of WWII, >from Tarnow, Galitsia. It is written in German.
I understand a little German, and I am able to read some sentences.
However, the handwriting is very difficult to me.

How can I upload a copy, and find somebody who would transcribe and
eventually translate it for me?

Thank you
