Recipients of the Polish Cross of Merit #poland

Alex Guri

Dear Genners,

Does anyone know where I could find lists of recipients of the Polish
Cross of Merit

The Cross of Merit (Polish: Krzyz Zaslugi) is a Polish civil state
award established on June 23, 1923, to recognize services to the state.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_of_Merit_(Poland)

My late grandmother's sister received this merit and I'm hoping such a
list will contain some details on her whereabouts and circumstances
during the war (for which the merit was given to her).

United Synagogue Marriage Authorisation Certificates #unitedkingdom

Joy Kestenbaum

I am interested in obtaining a copy of my grandparents's United
Synagogue marriage authorisation certificate, My grandparents,
Benjamin FREEDMAN and Selina KANTOR, were married in London on 25
February 1906 by Rabbi Joseph F. Stern at the East London (Stepney
Green) Synagogue. I have read online about the collaborative project
between the United Synagogue and the Jewish Genealogical Society of
Great Britain to index the authorisation certificates for marriages
which took place before 1908. According to the webpage
(http://www.theus.org.uk/support_services/find_your_family/marriage_records)
of the United Synagogue, where one can search for marriage authorisation
certificates >from 1880 to 1891, one can order records at a cost of 20
pounds,. The website notes that records will be added as each year's
indexing is completed. The link to the JGSGB Genealogical Enquiries
Team (reference USCRMAC) on the webpage of the United Synagogue noted
above and on the JGSGB's website do not provide an email address, and
I have not set up an an email client, preferring to maintain an online
account, so I have not been able to write directly. I'm hoping to
obtain the email address of the JGSGB Genealogical Enquiries Team, an
update on the project, as my grandparents were married after 1891,
and/or assistance in acquiring a copy of my grandparents's marriage
authorisation certificate. Is it possible for someone to check for my
grandparents's certificate or would I need to wait until the later
records are indexed? How would I go about ordering a copy >from the
United States? (I already have their wedding photograph, their
ketubah, an invitation to their wedding, and a certified copy of the
civil registry entry of marriage.)

Thanks for your assistance,
Joy Kestenbaum

Obtaining Visa information for someone coming into the USA #general

Carol Rombro Rider

Does anyone know if it is at all possible to obtain information on someone
who came **into** the USA by accessing their request for a visa? I am specifically
interested in the time period of 1935-1945, but others might be interested for
any period of time.

I never gave this much thought, but it might open up some interesting possibilities.

1920 Polish passport #general

Tamar Gold <trgold@...>

I have access to my grandmother's Polish passport >from 1920. I have tried to
use online Polish to English translation services to understand all of the
different parts of the passport, with only moderate success. The passport is
too fragile to be copied or scanned, and some of the words are missing or
deteriorated. I have been trying to find samples of Polish passports >from
that era, just so I can see what the Polish words were, but I have been
unsuccessful. I am able to decipher the handwritten responses to all
questions! Any thoughts about how I can proceed?
