Badge identification #poland

Robyn Dryen

I've posted a photo of a badge/pin on Viewmate. It was found in a
town in Poland - and I know it is a map of Palestine with Hebrew
lettering: aleph yud.

What I want to know is what group would have worn this badge?

It is on ViewMate at the following address
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM35782

Please respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application.

Thanking you for your help

ViewMate translation - German to English #germany

Myra Waddell

I'm posting a passenger list for which I would like a translation please.

The first three people are my great-uncle Joseph, his wife, Sarah and my
cousin, Maurice. There isn't too much to translate on this document. I
think it reads in col. 8 that they come >from Chotin. I would like to
know what col. 7 is as I can't understand the heading. It looks as
though col. 9 is just someone's initials. I would like to know the word
written in cols 10 and 11 and I think that the numbers in the last
couple of columns probably refer to the fact of two adults and one child.

It is on ViewMate at the following address ...

Dear SIGgers,
I have posted a snip on ViewMate >from the witness page of an 1877
marriage document. I'd like to know the professions of the two
witnesses, particularly that of Leopold Husch. Witnesses' ages look
like 49 and 29, respectively, and I would like verification of that.
You may view the snip at

Re: Please help to translate my ViewMate file # 35784 (I made a mistake) #germany

Lin <lin2@...>

Dear GerSIGgers,
I made a mistake and scanned the wrong item, but it's okay. I scanned a
50th birthday poem for my grandfather. Both things have a 50. I found
the anniversary poem, but my scanner won't work. Looking forward to
scanning that soon and putting it on viewmate. Thanks so much,

Lin Herz Palm Bay, Florida

Searching: MILLER, Margaret -> Ohio 1800s #usa

Sabrina Zearott

Good evening everyone,

I'm trying to find out whether my g-g-g-g-g-grandmother Margaret
MILLER (m. Joseph BALLARD) was Jewish. She married into what I (as far
as I know) think was a Jewish family (BALLARD/CLOYS or CLOYES/TOWNE)
and named her child Hebron (aka Abram)......I mean, is it a huge
stretch to assume that her child's name and her husband's religion
indicate that her children were considered Jewish (and therefore she
probably was too)? This was in Ohio in the early 1800s.

Does anyone know anything about her? If it helps, she was the daughter
of Eleanor (Alice?) DOBBINS, who was the daughter of Mary Ann
MCCLAIN/MCLEAN/MCLAIN of Ireland. Margaret's grandmother Mary Ann's
son became a Methodist minister and she was buried in a Methodist
cemetery so I kind of doubt she was Jewish. However, maybe her
granddaughter Margaret Miller converted, per what I said earlier about
her son Hebron's name.

I don't know a whole lot about this - help is very much appreciated!
Thanks in advance and nice to "meet" everyone! Sincerely,

Sabrina Zearott Pullman, Washington state winterlightssz@gmail.com
