International Conference on Jewish genealogy taking place at the Jerusalem
Ramada 6-10 July 2015. The Conference is being held in cooperation with
MyHeritage and with the support of individual, organizational and
corporate sponsors presently including Harvey Krueger of New York and Yad
Vashem. We will be updating our list of sponsors to include longstanding
friends of Jewish genealogy and a host of new friends.

The Ramada Hotel near the entrance to Jerusalem was chosen as our
conference venue as it is the only Jerusalem hotel able to host a
conference of our size, has easy access to city and interurban
transportation and is close to many archives, museums and cultural
attractions. The Ramada has two wings; Royal Hotel (3 stars) and the
Ramada (4 stars). Reservations in the conference block are available
following your registration to the conference. To get the Hotel

Kishinev - Doyna Cemetery project #bessarabia

Dear researchers,

I want to report that a group of Bessarabia SIG members completed indexing
and photographing Kishinev-Doyna Cemetery. It is a very large Kishinev Town
cemetery with Jewish Quarters. 9630 records were send to JewishGen /JOWBR
with 9333 photos.

There are going to be another 1000-1500 records added to the cemetery. The
photos of those will arrive later this year or begging of next year. Please
donate to Kishinev - Doyna Cemetery project!

I want to thank all volunteers: Alla Gamulka, Alan Levine, Alan Shuchat,
Inna Vayner, Julia Lombardo, Marc Goldenberg, Paula Khalili, Terry Lasky,

International Conference on Jewish genealogy taking place at the Jerusalem
Ramada 6-10 July 2015. The Conference is being held in cooperation with
MyHeritage and with the support of individual, organizational and
corporate sponsors presently including Harvey Krueger of New York and Yad
Vashem. We will be updating our list of sponsors to include longstanding
friends of Jewish genealogy and a host of new friends.

I recently posted a query about how people leaving Romania got to their
departure ports. I got many interesting replies.

I would like to ask the same question about Jews leaving the Litvak areas of
the Russian Empire (Lithuania and Belarus, in particular). The port cities
from which the emigrants departed for the US, e.g., Hamburg, were distant from
the towns of Eastern Europe. Were there trains? Dud they walk? Were there
established networks? Movements unique to those areas? Any insights would be
appreciated.
