E. Randol Schoenberg

By coincidence, in the past two weeks I have met two people who have
different grandfathers named Leo LIECHTENSTEIN, both of whom lived in
Graz, Austria. One is at
http://www.geni.com/people/Leo-Liechtenstein/6000000034148484684 The
other, which I am still working on connecting, is at
http://www.geni.com/people/Leo-Liechtenstein/6000000034302724168

Is there a good source for Jewish records >from Graz?

ARON and LEIE TEICHER who knows their descendants and fate? #poland

Leah and Eli Teicher

For several years I am "stuck" in one of my family's research. Repeating the
research was unfruitful.
Even though-
I am trying to find descendants, if there are, or the fate of my father's
in-law uncle who immigrated to the U.S.A for 4 times being a resident
in U.S.A . No evidence was found as to what happened to him or to his wife
after landing in New York...

His name was ARON TEICHER (BORN 1871 - 1873?), his wife LEIE/LINA/LENA
(born 1878/9?) Aron Teicher was the son of CHUNNE/CHUNNA/KHUNNA TEICHER.
(right name - Chunna Teicher was my father in law grandfather)
from the village RUDNIKI near ZABLOTOV/ZABLOTIV, then Poland now Ukraine.
He declared so every time he arrived in N.Y, also that he left there his
father.

What is known is (Ellis Island and Ancestry.com data bases):
1. ARON TEICHER's arrival: November 27th 1899 to N.Y to his brother-in-law
Lewis Fischman who lived in 114 1/2 Essex St., N.Y
Passenger ID:604028050096
Could not find Fischman's descendants

2. LEIE's arrival on February 13th 1900 - to her husband who lived in the
address above.
ID:603798020256. Could not trace her.
As to Ancestry.com - There is a woman named Lena Teicher. I have her
death certificate and tried to
Find their descendants no luck.
Her husband there is Hyman Teicher.

3. ARON TEICHER (written as a mistake Feicher) arrival 26th November 1909
(RESIDENT!)
To his aunt CIWYE TEICHER, who lived in 292 Cherry St. N.Y
On that arrival he declared he was single , he was detained for couple
of days and released as he was a resident.
There in his record line it is written he arrived also on 1905 to the
U.S.A
ID: 101728020408
And when he was released his ID no. was 101728020574

Tried many names' and surnames' variations to find ARON TEICHER and LEIE
TEICHER as an "American " ones - no luck so far. I have no idea if they
even left the U.S.A

I am curious and anxious to know these people and at least their fate.
My husband has no extended family and we might go this summer to the U.S.A.

Most thankful to any idea how to find them.

ZAJDENKUND - Warsaw & Bichawa #poland

Rony Golan

Dear friends,

I am looking for any information about the ZAJDENKUND - ZAJDENKIND
(and possible other spellings).

I have already searched the JRI-Poland database, Genealogy Indexer,
JewishGen Poland Database.

My research indicates that the family originated in Bychawa near
Lublin and then lived in Warsaw.

It seems that this name is very rare, and all people carriyng it
are related.

There is a family story about a female member of the family who
immigrated >from Poland to South America during the 1930s.

Your thoughts and help will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Rony Golan

Abraham ABRAMOWITZ-born Jerusalem 1894 #general

Yonatan Ben-Ari

It has always intrigued me if there is/was a family connection between
Abraham ABRAMOWITZ who was born in Jerusalem in 1894 and my
grandfather Chaim Yitzchak ABRAMOWITZ who was also born in Jerusalem
in 1895.

Abraham, I believe married a CHARLAP and eventually moved to Chicago
where he served as a Conservative Rabbi during the 1930-1950s. My
grandfather also emmigrated to the states in the 1930s but returned
after a 5 year stay there.

Several years ago I was in contact with descendants of Abraham A. but
they could not confirm whether or not there was a connection between
our two families. I would be happy to reconnect with Rabbi Abraham
A.'s family to see if there is a connection.

Connected to the above is a rumor told to me by a distant relative -
also ABRAMOWITZ- that there is a building in the Geula section
(actually Achva) which seems to have been known as the ABRAMOWITZ house
which had been given to "Kolel North America" in Jerusalem. The teller
of this tale said that this ABRAMOWITZ was on our family name. Being
the family geneaologist I am a bit surprised that I never heard of this
story and my guess is that it is not connected to our ABRAMOWITZ family.

Roberta asked if there was any significance to the name Paltiel. I would also
like to know the answer to this question. I know that the name is in the Bible
but is there anything else that is remarkable? Both my great-grandfather and
his cousin were named Abraham Paltiel. The family is >from Ukraine.

Bookplate artist #austria-czech

Earlier this year there was a discussion in this forum about a Czech artist
living around 1940, who produced bookplates which he signed personally but
I've lost the emails. Pleases could somebody remind me of this story, as I
have come across what may be another example of his work. The signature
looks something like W Arent.

Some of you may know of the work of Father Desbois, a French priest who has been
visiting the sites of many of the mass killings in Eastern Europe, Russia, etc. He has
performed memorial services at these sites and interviewed older residents who were
witnesses. His center is Yahad - In Unum. His book is "Holocaust by Bullets." I have
heard him speak several times and he is an inspiring person.

They have recently added a Kalush page and will add some of the pages below in the
near future. Borschov has been there for awhile.

Lodz records at the USHMM #austria-czech

rfc974@...

Hi folks:

I spent today at the USHMM, mostly working on emigration files for the
Viennese Jewish Community (a process I found frustrating). But while
waiting for some microfilm to be retrieved, I did a bit of work on
Lodz ghetto records and thought I would pass along what I learned.

So the "Last Letters >from Lodz" index at JewishGen corresponds to
collection 15.083 in the USHMM library, and this collection has been
digitally copied. So, at the museum (but, alas not on-line), you can
sit at a computer and find the letters and download them to your USB
drive. The roll number and page numbers >from the JewishGen index work
fine and I was able to grab letters for 16 people in about 20 minutes.
The letters are painful reading -- they are pleas not to be placed on
a transport (to the execution camp at Chelmno) and tell of people
caring for sick family members, for young children, and the like.

Another index at JewishGen, for "Lodz Ghetto Work Identification
Cards", also corresponds to collection 15.083. So this is also
digitized. Again, easy to find the right record. Many of the ID
cards have photos.

Hoping this is useful,

Craig
