R'yisrael Nachman ben Yosef of Ostrag-Mazkeret Legdolei Ostrog #rabbinic

Yonatan Ben-Ari

In the book "Mazkeret LeGdolei Ostraha" there appear two Yisrael
Nachman ben Yosef (pp.222 and 277). The author believes that the
two above people may be one and the same.

I have an ancestor R' Yisrael ben Yosef of Ostraha, who seems to
fit the bill as the same as the two entries in the above book.

Are there any descendants of the two (or one) above and have any
information as to this person's family name (which does not appear
in the articles). We have in our family a presumption that our
Yisrael ben Yosef's name was ROSENBAUM.

TIA

Connection to Nobel Prize winner Dr. Paul EHRLICH? #dna

Scott Ehrlich <scott@...>

As an EHRLICH (my father's paternal side), with my dad's father
(originally >from Stanislov, Lviv, Ukraine), having also been a medical
doctor >from their hometown, who passed the medical boards here in the
US after the family arrived, actively followed Nobel Prize winning Dr.
Paul EHRLICH.

Yes, there is a great distance between where Paul's family is >from and
mine, but it is not impractical for a biologically-connected relative
to have lived there as well.

Does anyone know if any biological family member of his has tested?
If not, what is the best way to reach out to them to try and get
someone to test? Having conducted a Y-DNA test myself via Family Tree
DNA, I'd love to find a way to get a living male EHRLICH >from his
family (3rd cousin, doesn't matter, so long as the Ehrlich line
remains intact to a common ancestor) to test.

Ancestry no longer does Y DNA, and while 23andme does, it would not
help me isolate the result to my paternal line, where FTDNA would, and
23andme permits anonymous testers - I may never know who they are.

Thanks for leads and ideas.

Nicholas Winton #austria-czech

mbeer@...

My sister and me were almost rescued by Mr. Winton in 1939.
My sister was 5 - I was 10 years old at that time.
We did not join Mr. Wintons children; we were sent to Ghetto Theresienstadt
where we spent almost three years. We were due to go to Poland - to
Auschwitz a few times,
but stayed in Theresienstadt and survived.
Our mother died in Israel when she was almost 85 years old. I am 86 ,
my sister is 81 years old.
We have children, grandchildren, I have two greatgranddaughters.
All of us live in Israel in the land of our forefathers,
Maud Michal Beer nee Stecklmacher.

I would like to say a big thank you to the many people who offered
advice regarding Family Tree software!
I appreciate your experience and expertise. Of course there were
several suggestions. Reunion, I Family and Family Tree Maker along
with several free offerings on various websites were the main ones.

Thank you sincerely,
Josa

Last try (two version of this note got bounced).

Badatelna had technical issues the past few weeks that have now been
resolved. Thanks to their technical staff for getting this fixed.

Enjoy!

Re: (Poland) Jewish Tombstones Found in Riverbed and Walkways #general

Dear Researchers,

I recently visited Kazimierz Dolny, a small town near Lublin that has
a artistic memorial wall made up of broken tombstones. The site is
referred to as "The Wailing Wall" and a visit there is included in
their guided city tours.

There is also a partially reconstructed synagogue building in town run
as a museum/guest house by the Jewish community.
