Tiraspol Uezd Revision Lists project #romania

Inna Vayner <innanes@...>

Dear Researchers,

Here is the update on the status of Tiraspol Uezd revision list
translation project. We have completed translating and sent about
7,800 line items to Jewishgen to load into Bessarabian DB. Please see
the records by locality below.

- Tiraspol 1796 and 1858 Additional Revision Lists - 244 families
- Dubossary 1799 Additional Revision List and 1816, 1850, 1858 Main
Revision lists
- Grigoriopol 1858 Main Revision List - 12 families
- Agricultural colonies of Tiraspol Uezd 1858 Main Revision Lists
- Voynova - 30 families
- Buzinova - 109 families
- Balashova - 51 families
- Kisilevka - 3 families

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the team of volunteers
translators who have been working with me on this project: Ala
Gamulka, Sheli Fain, Alla Kovsharova, Aleksandra Khaskin, Marc Barer,
Yuliya Vayner, Alexander Volok, and Genny Imas.

We are continuing to work on this project as we have a rather unique
set of records coming >from Registry book of Dubossary Residents. This
Registry book contains information pertaining to real estate
ownership, residents occupation, towns visited, etc. Here is an
example of the record found in this book.

"Real Estate possession of one of the merchants: Stone house, one and
a half floors, built by him, purchased >from Kopel SHVARTS, situated on
Starobazar Street. Stone house with two cellars and yards, built by
him to replace old house, purchased >from Fedor Shagoshyan, situated on
Novoybazar street. Store made of stone, built by him, supplied by
Rukhl Laya TSELNIKOV, situated on Starobazar street."

If someone wants to get a full set of records in advance for any
particular town mentioned above, it will be possible with a donation
of $100 to Tiraspol Uezd Project or Bessarabia SIG General Fund. Here
is the link to the donation website

DJAMENTs from CMIELOW - Any leads on these names? #poland

charles goldenzon

Dear JRI-PL's,

A couple of weeks ago I asked whether Chil Pinkwas Djament, my
grandfather's name, rang any bell. He was born in Cmielow in 1905 to
Moszek Lejb Djament and Fajga Djament, nee Lichtensztajn. Chil
immigrated to Brazil in 1930.

I now have a few other names and I wanted to renew my request for any
reference you might have on these. They were Chil's siblings and i hope
to find any of their descendants. The names are:

1 - Nusen Mordka Djament - Born 1884 in Cmielow
2 - Chaja Cywia Djament - Born 1886 in Jastkow, Cmielow
3 - Alta Eta Djament - Born 1895 in Wiora, Cmielow
4 - Ryvka Ruchla Djament - Born 1896 in Wgory, Cmielow

Any lead is much appreciated,

Charles Goldenzon

Roots trip travel information request #lithuania

RICHARD FRIEDMAN

This spring I am planning to go on a "Roots Trip" with my adult son to
Lithuanian, Belarus and England and perhaps for a very brief stop in
Riga, Latvia and through Estonia to Janova, Lith- our Shtetl- and
surrounding area. We may also go to Kovno and Vilna and plan on going to
Glebokie in Belarus for the day..

I am seeking current information and recommendations on local guides
with or access to a driver with a car, costs, hotels etc and any other
suggestions you may have to make this a memorable trip for us. A number
of years ago, I visited some of these places. My goal is to have my son
make a connection to our families past.

Thanks for your help.

Re: vel vel vel #galicia

Barbara Mannlein <bsmannlein@...>

That's a bit too simple, Mark.

The researcher must understand the reason for two different names.

**The abbreviation vel is seen in the many cases where parents had only
a religious marriage and not the mandated civil marriage or one by an
approved "state" rabbi.

My 8 WACHS cousins came to the US after WWI with their widowed
mother. Once in the US, 7 of the children used the surname Wachs while
one retained his mother's maiden name, MISCHEL, so as, he said, never
to forget the anti-Semitism of the authorities who would not acknowledge
the religious marriage of his parents.

Barbara - Thanks. Yes, the parents did not have a recorded civil marriage,
and the children's surnames were always listed with their mother's surname.
However, this child was the only one that had 2 names, not the others. Any
reason for that? - Mark
