Re Rae Gargin Zilitzky? #general

Robert Sharp <sharpo@...>

She was my contact in southern California to find out about my
grandfather Louis Shapiro and my aunts Doris and Ruth, but her mail is
returned. The spelling may be a bit off. If anyone knows anything
please let me know as I am trying to trace my family roots. Thanks

Re: HARRIS #lithuania

Barry Spinak <punim@...>

Harris may have been the Anglicized name "given" an immigrant with a last
name such as Hersh (Gersh, or Girsh) or Hershowitz (Girshowitz, Girshovich,
et al.). In my family, Hyman Hirsh Perch (Peretz?) lost his last name to an
impatient immigration official who recorded his name as Hyman Harris. Just
another example of a Jewish immigrant being "harassed."

Searching Louis SHAPIRO Family #general

Robert Sharp <sharpo@...>

My grandfather was Louis SHAPIRO who came >from Russia via England and
to America in 1912 with his English wife Annie and his 4 children Harold
(Harry) Jacob Cecil, Doris, and Ruth. They lived in Baltimore in 1920
and later in Brooklyn where Louis was a tailor. My aunts married men
named ABROMOWITZ and SINGER and moved to California. I don't know any
more about them but would like to meet their children, who would be my
cousins. Anyone who can help would be appreciated.

Jean: The book "The Jews of Boston" edited by Jonathan Sarna and Ellen
Smith, ISBN I-55553-217-9, has a photo of Yeshiva, 87 Poplar Street,
Boston circa 1920. The photo is credited to the American Jewish Historical
Society. The building is no longer standing, indeed the street itself has
disappeared (urban renewal). There is no longer a Yeshiva in Boston. AJHS
may have a clue as to the location of records.

the name of the Yeshiva in Boston? Does it still exist? If it does,
could someone send me the name and address so I can write for records?

tombstone photo in Cementerio Tablada, Buenos Aires #general

Michael Kam

Shalom,

With the generous help of Paul Armony (President of the Argentinean
Jewish genealogical Society) I was able to obtain grave location of one
of my ancestors, Israel KAM (d. 13 09 1940), his wife and a sister at:
Cementerio Tablada, Provincia de Buenos Aires. I know that the cemetery
is owned by the main kehila of Buenos Aires AMIA. .

Israel KAM immigrated to Argentina ~ 1926 >from Poland (possibly >from
Rejowiec or Chelm). As most other family perished during the holocaust
this could be a most important link through which I could learn about
siblings of my ggf and his parents.

1: Could someone living not far >from that cemetery be kind to take
pictures of the gravestone (or copy the inscription on the stone) for
me.

2: Could someone out there help to find the cemetery documentation (or
others) so I could learn where exactly my ancestor came >from and when,
names of his siblings/parents, address, etc.

Please, call me privately at mkam@bgumail.bgu.ac.il so I could forward
exact names and grave locations.

Thank you dear JGenners for the wonderful work you are all doing and
wishing you all a Happy and Kosher Pesach,

Michael Kam, Beer-Sheva, Israel
