Another way to approach this subject is to look at historical maps.

There are many wonderful websites for viewing maps of the Lower East Side
including;

www.davidrumsey.com

www.nypl.org

(see, for example, maps of Manhattan):
http://digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigital/dgkeysearchresult.cfm?keyword=manhattan )

www.historicmapworks.com

from my work on Jewish criminality, I'm well aware of the level of crime
that occurred near the intersection of Forsyth and Grand Streets. [I even
talked about this intersection during my presentation at the IAJGS
conference about various websites.] Notables, including "Dopey" Benny Fein
and Irving "Waxey Gordon" Wexler, hung around this neighborhood in the early
1900s. 98 Forsyth Street was home to Odd Fellows Hall - home to many a drug
dealer, including Waxey.

Dear all I am searching for the lineage of the Seer of Lublin.
As my Zaide is the great grandson of his passing >from the line of
Engelsberg and Wertman families of Lublin Poland.

I am also trying to find out any information regarding a Cantor Isaac
SINGER of Montreal who passed away in 1938. I believe he was
affiliated with the TBDJ and buried in the back river cemetery but I
have very little information to go on. I am also looking for

Film Vienna's Lost Daughters #austria-czech

An Austrian produced documentary entitled Vienna's Lost Daughters will
premiere next month at the Diagonale Film Festival in Graz, Austria. It is the
story of eight Viennese born women who were forced to flee Vienna in 1938/1939,
and now live in the New York metropolitan area. The film depicts their lives
in the USA, as well as their feelings towards their birthplace. The film will
be released in theaters throughout Austria, and will eventually be shown at
film festivals worldwide. More details about the film and autobiographical
sketches of the women can be found at _www.viennaslostdaughters.at_
(http://www.viennaslostdaughters.at) . The web site is in German and English.

A trailer of the film was shown on May 4, 2006, at the Letter to the Stars
memorial program at Vienna's Stephansplatz. My mother, Susanne Perl nee
