Hi there Tammy,

What "registration" number are you referring to? I've used plenty of LDS
microfilms and, other than their catalog numbers (e.g. 1792210), I don't
know of any registration number.

With best wishes,

Bob Kosovsky, New York City, seeking any and all permutations/locations of:
KASOVSKI/Y, KASOWSKI/Y, KOSOFSKY, KOSOVSKY, KOSOWSKY, KOSOW, KOSSOVE, etc.
Slutsk: DAVIDSON, GELFAND (also Sioux City, Iowa)
Klodawa: JARET, JARETSKY, JARECKI, KOLSKY/I; Przedecz: PIFKO, PIWKO

I am trying to find the page link that belongs with FHL 1792210,
NHAB Minsk/333/9/906, registration number 553.32. The Belarus SIG
link brings me to the correct microfilm, but I don't know how to
identify the registration number. I don't read Cyrillic, but
figured that the registration number would guide me. I would
appreciate someone guiding me through this process.

Vradiste and Bosace #hungary

Hello,

How do I find vital records for the Jewish communities of Vradiste and Bosace.

My great grandparents Bernhard and Lina (Kraus) Glaser lived in Hodonin. Bernhard came
>from Vradiste, originally. Lina and her father (Hermann Kraus) came >from Bosace (Bosatch).

Thanks,

Rick Glaser

Moderator:When asking for assistance with your research it helps if you indicate
the dates that your ancestors lived in the places you list and which resources you
have used. Vradiste and Bosace are probably and Bossacz, Trencsen, and Vradist, Nyitra,
which are now in Slovakia. Best place to start your research is the JewishGen
Hungary database but best to use the Hungarian names if your relatives lived there
before the end of World War I.

The following excerpt is >from a book (Wanderings - 1944) my great
uncle Moshe Melamed (1882-1954) wrote in Yiddish about his life in
Ungheni, Bessarabia (now Moldova). This portion talks about his
departure >from the village with his wife (Bobele) - later Miriam - on
a wagon on their way to America:

"Moyshl kissed his little brothers David, Lipeh, and the infant
Hershele. He said farewell to his sisters Elke and Rokhl and to all of
his cousins and the friends who were hanging on to the wagon. The
wagon moved away and a cloud of dust followed, the crowd remained
standing and white kerchiefs were waving in the wind until the wagon
disappeared behind the Bareshier Mountains. The village was no longer
visible.

The first night was spent in Brichan in an inn. It was so crowded they
had to sleep on the ground. It was very noisy because a traveling
group of Yiddish actors were rehearsing the Goldfaden play,
"Shulamit." . . . They were up early the next morning. They were
unwashed, uncombed, red-eyed and they were on their way again. [He
goes on to describe the beauty of Bessarabian fields.]

He later writes: "Bobele's shoes were full of water as they crossed
the narrow stream that separated Russian soil and Austrian soil.
Moyshl held Bobele's hand and didn't let go. "

All I know after that is that they departed Liverpool and arrived in
Philadelphia in 1905. My uncle went on to publish Yiddish fiction and
was a regular journalist reviewing Yiddish theater for Philadelphia
and NY Yiddish publications. See:

taken in Wien and that near Samuel appear another soldier named Jakob
Zweifler and also two civilians. See more information in the full
translation of the German text on the back of the picture.

The photo is displayed on the ViewMate Image Gallery page with the
number 49851.

My questions

Anyone recognizes Jakob Zweifler or the civilians?

How is Coney Island related to this picture?

What can we learn >from the uniforms of the soldiers? Ranks? Their unit?

Please respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application.

Thanks for any help
